The liver is considered a vital organ, which means its functions are very important and that is why it is necessary that we take really good care of it. Some even go to the extent of taking liver supplements to make sure their liver is well and healthy. Alcohol, smoking and drugs are definitely a NO-NO if we want to keep our liver functioning well.

    Thank you for sharing these smoothie recipes for cleansing the liver, they look really yummy. However, I’m not sure about about celery, kale and artichoke but I will definitely try papaya, green detox, strawberry and beetroot smoothies.

    By the way, I was told that taking supplements, even herbal, for a considerable period of time can also damage the liver. What do you say?

    • I used to take a lot supplements and it definitely made things worse. I think every supplement or food, even the healthy ones, can be harmful, if we take or eat too much of it. So moderation and balance is key!

  8. From reading your post, I definitely need a liver detox smoothies. I always feel sluggish and tired…. it is more like unmotivated and I feel that going on and about with my day is just hard. The papaya and strawberry beetroot look so good. The turmeric sounds interesting, I will give it a try and be more adventurous. I drink smoothies daily but never combine them like your recipe. For example my smoothies will have, 1 banana, borrel blueberries (got it from Trader Joes’s), chia seeds, and a banana. Every morning I also drink ginger shot or ginger tea that I made. It is always nice to have more recipes to keep things interesting 🙂 Thank you for sharing these yummy recipes.

  10. I really like the sound of some of these smoothies, they don’t sound too difficult to make, either. I especially like the sound of the first one, with the celery and spirulina. I’ve heard a bit about spirulina but haven’t really seen it in my local shops. Can you recommend somewhere I could buy it online? Thank you

    • Hi Emily, I would always go for organic spirulina. If you’re not used to algae supplements, I would start with spirulina in tablet form, they’re super easy to take. Spirulina in powder form has a rather strong taste, but mixed in smoothies it’s not too bad. You can buy organic spirulina on amazon.

    Taking care of the liver is a job that I thought took care of itself thanks to reading your article I have found that this is not at all true.  I do not drink alcohol feeling that this alone would be enough to not do any damage to the liver, was I wrong on this note.

  14. Wow what a yummy recipes. I didn’t think cleaning up your liver could sound so fun. I want to try the papaya liver cleaning smoothie but I don’t usually purchase limes. Can lemon be a substitute? I’ve had acai in smoothies and they taste great but I wonder if they also clean up liver too but I’d imagine they would. Since I carry acai freeze dried, got any recipe you recommend me try that would help clean up my liver?
