Are Vitamix Blenders BPA-Free

Are Vitamix Blenders BPA-Free?

I have been using my Vitamix blender for years and it’s still going strong. But since Vitamix mostly uses plastic for their containers, I often get asked, are Vitamix blenders BPA-free? Are all Vitamix containers free from BPA?

Here’s what I know about the plastic Vitamix uses:

Yes, all Vitamix blenders are completely BPA-free. For household blender jars, Vitamix only uses BPA-free Eastman Tritan copolyester. Vitamix blenders also don’t contain BPS or other bisphenols that are similar to BPA.

But there’s more to know about plastic, BPA, and Vitamix containers.

In this article, I’ll show you why all Vitamix blenders come with plastic jars. We’ll also dive deeper into BPA-free plastic. Is it really safe?

Last but not least, I’m going to show you the stainless steel container that Vitamix just came out with. You’re going to love it!

So, buckle up and hang on for the ride!

What is BPA and is it harmful?

BPA-Free Blender Jar

BPA is a chemical that has been used to make plastic more resilient for decades. It was often used in food storage containers, food cans, baby bottles, water bottles, and blender jars… objects that come in contact with food.

BPA can seep out of plastics right into your body, and tests have found BPA traces in more than 90% of Americans!

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) thinks BPA in small amounts is safe, but some experts think otherwise.

How bad is BPA?

Research has shown that BPA can be toxic and it’s best to avoid it. It has been linked to fertility problems, impotence, heart disease, and other conditions

It is believed that young children and infants are especially sensitive to the negative effects of BPA.

Because of safety concerns, some countries already banned BPA in some food packaging. It has been banned in Canada, France, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium… and it should be banned in the US too!

How to tell if plastics contain BPA

It can be difficult to identify which plastics contain BPA.

The only way I know is by looking at the recycling number. If the recycling number is 7, and the number is accompanied by ‘PC’, you can be certain it’s polycarbonate plastic, which contains BPA.

If you’re buying plastic storage containers or other plastics that come in contact with food or beverages, try to choose trusted brands and products that are clearly labeled as BPA-free.

I would advise against buying cheap no-name electronic devices that come in contact with food, or low-priced plastic beverage and food containers, even if they’re labeled as BPA-free. More on that later.

Do Vitamix blenders have BPA?

Vitamix has some of the finest blenders on the market. It’s the gold standard when it comes to blenders.

They’re more durable, versatile, and powerful than any other high-end blender you could get.

The only blenders that come close are Blendtec blenders, but they play in the same price range. And that’s the only downside to Vitamix blenders – they’re expensive!

If you pay several hundred dollars for a high-performance blender, you can expect to get only the highest quality materials.

Vitamix containers are plastic (and are good reasons for it, I’ll explain it later), but the plastic they use is top-notch!

Vitamix uses Eastman Tritan copolyester, which of course, is BPA-free. It also doesn’t contain BPS or other bisphenols that are similar to BPA.

Blending containers made with this Tritan plastic are clear, durable, and safe to use. It almost looks like glass, but it won’t break if you drop it.

Tritan plastic is also heat-resistant and you can easily blend hot liquids.

Have you ever experienced plastic losing its luster after years of usage? I sure have, but not with my Vitamix container.

I’ve used my Vitamix 5200 (almost) daily for years, and the jar still looks great. It doesn’t look new, but it’s pretty close.

That’s because Tritan plastic can easily retain its clarity even after hundreds of dishwasher cycles, it’s that good.

Vitamix not only uses Tritan plastic because it looks better, but it’s also more durable than cheaper plastics.

Vitamix blenders come with super-strong motors, these blenders are so powerful, that you can heat up cold ingredients with just the friction of the blades!

You better have a blending container that is shatter-resistant and durable when you’re blending ingredients like ice cubes at high speed.

Is BPA-free plastic safe?

Now, we know that Vitamix only uses BPA-free plastic, but is BPA-free plastic safe?

And the answer is, it depends! There’s a large variance when it comes to different types of plastics that are free from BPA.

Often, companies turn to use alternative chemicals that are similar to BPA to develop BPA-free plastic.

These chemicals are just as harmful as BPA, but they’re not BPA, so they can easily be labeled BPA-free… this is where it all gets complicated.

It’s difficult for you as a consumer to find out which BPA-free plastic is safe, that’s why I advise you to stay away from cheap no-name brands.

Not only do those often label their products BPA-free, even if they contain BPA, they also use BPS and other harmful chemicals instead of BPA in their plastics.

When chemicals like BPA are removed from the market, they’re often replaced by others that act similarly. So, if you’re shopping for a BPA-free blender, make sure to check if the plastic is also free from BPS.

The plastic Vitamix uses, is both free from BPA and BPS and any other harmful chemicals. You get what you pay for is very true when it comes to blenders.

Is BPA-free plastic recyclable?

The world produces nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year and most of it is produced for single-use! A good portion of it will end up in the ocean. It’s bad for our planet, there’s no denying it.

While you probably will use your Vitamix pitcher for many years (or even decades) to come, I still wanted to dive deeper into its recyclability.

So, is BPA-free plastic recyclable?

The BPA-free plastic Vitamix uses is safe to use and durable, but it’s difficult to recycle.

Tritan isn’t as commonly used as cheaper plastic materials, and therefore, won’t get recycled as often. But sometimes you can find a local recycling partner that can recycle Tritan plastic.

Eastman also just came out with a new Tritan plastic called Tritan Renew. I really hope Vitamix will start using it for their pitchers.

Tritan Renew is as durable as the original Tritan plastic, but it’s made from recycled materials.

Is there a glass pitcher for Vitamix?

Glass Blender and Shake

Maybe you’re still not sure you want a plastic pitcher that comes in contact with food, even if it’s BPA-free.

So, does Vitamix offer glass pitchers for their blender? Easy question, easy answer.

No, there aren’t any glass containers for Vitamix blenders. And there are good reasons for it, I’ve written a whole article about it, check it out here: do Vitamix blenders have glass containers?

Using glass jars would be a huge safety risk. Vitamix blenders are commercial blenders and the high speed could shatter the glass while blending.

In the good old days, all blender pitchers were made out of glass. But these blenders weren’t as powerful as modern blenders.

There are still some glass blenders on the market, but those usually come with weaker motors. If you prefer a good old glass blender, check out the best blenders with a glass jar

Are all Vitamix containers plastic?

Every Vitamix blender you can get for home use comes with a plastic pitcher. While Vitamix doesn’t offer glass containers, they just came out with something that is superior to both glass and plastic!

The Vitamix stainless steel container

Vitamix-Stainless Steel Container

Vitamix just introduced their latest-generation blending jar. What a beauty it is!

It’s not plastic, it isn’t glass either. It’s better than both! The new Vitamix container is made out of durable steel, stainless steel to be exact. You can check it out here

While stainless steel containers have been popular in restaurant kitchens for a while, you won’t find many stainless steel containers for home use. Waring and Vitamix are the only ones offering steel containers right now, as far as I know.

I think in the future, you will see more and more steel blenders popping up, the advantages are obvious.

Stainless steel is sturdy and even more durable than Tritan plastic or glass. I never managed to break a kitchen tool made out of stainless steel, did you?

Also, stainless steel won’t ever leach nasty chemicals into your blend. You’ll never have to worry about BPA and BPS, or if BPA-free plastic is safe or not. That’s a huge plus.

Stainless steel is also odor and stain-resistant just like glass. And you can easily blend hot liquids with a stainless steel container, just make sure to use oven mitts for hot blends.

The only downside to this container is its price. It is expensive! You could easily buy a blender from another brand for the price this container is selling for. Is it worth it? I let you be the judge.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether Vitamix blenders are BPA-free?

Vitamix blenders are BPA-free and only come with the highest-quality materials. If you’re still concerned about plastic and chemicals, you could get a stainless steel container or a weaker blender that comes with a glass jar.
