Best Blender for Crushing Ice

Best Blender for Crushing Ice 2020

Finding the best blender for crushing ice isn’t easy. Crushing ice is one of the most challenging tasks for a blender. It’s quite difficult to tell whether a model really crushes ice, even if the manufacturer says it will.

If you don’t want to end up buying a blender, that struggles with ice, be sure to read this guide. I’ve done hours of research to help you find the best ice crushing blender no matter what your budget may be.

What Makes a Good Ice Crushing Blender?

➀ Powerful Motor

The best ice crushing blenders are the ones with a strong motor. Blenders with less than 700 watts might quickly burnout. If you buy a weak blender, you’ll end up with unprocessed chunks. The more powerful the motor, the better the results.

➁ Blade Design

Blade design is essential. The Nutribullet Pro and the Nutri Ninja Pro both come with a powerful 900-watt motor. The Nutri Ninja crushes ice into snow in seconds. The Nutribullet struggles to crush ice. Both have the same power, so what’s the reason for the difference in performance?

It’s the blade design. The Nutri Ninja has specialized blades that perform exceptionally well with ice. Ninja calls it Total Crushing Technology. I love how Vitamix puts it: “You don’t need more horses, you need trained ones”.

➂ Pitcher

A thin plastic pitcher can be cracked by spinning ice cubes. All blenders listed on this site come with jars that are suitable for crushing ice.

I’ve divided this guide into three different price ranges so that you can choose your budget. If you want to have a small ice crushing blender, select the category “Best Personal Blenders for Crushing Ice”.

Best Low-Priced Blenders for Crushing Ice

1. Ninja Blender BL610 | Best Choice

The Ninja BL610 is the best blender for crushing ice if you’re on a budget. It’s the top-selling model from Ninja and has 1000’s of positive reviews on Amazon.  For me, it’s one of the most beautiful blenders on the market and the way it crushes ice unbelievable. With this 1000-watt blender, you can blast ice into snow in seconds.

Ninja calls it “Total Crushing® Technology”. See it for yourself:

The blade design is very well thought of. The six blades are going in every direction with different speeds, so it really crushes the ice and chops up and pulverizes everything you put into it. You can remove the blades from the pitcher; it makes cleanup a breeze.

A Ninja is much more than a simple ice crush blender. It’s powerful enough to create refreshing frozen drinks, healthy green smoothies or delicious dips and sauces. You can use your Ninja Blender to chop onions and other veggies for your salsa or soups and even make homemade nut butter.

The jar has a large capacity of 72 oz, perfect if you have a larger family. You can make batches for up to 8 people in one go. You’ll never have to worry about harmful chemicals in your smoothies and frozen drinks, all plastic parts of this blender are BPA-free.

You’ll love how quick this blender handles even tough ingredients. If you’re ever in the mood for a green smoothie, the Ninja pulverizes leafy greens like kale in seconds.

The blender is easy to use. Only five buttons control it. All buttons have LED lights and are clearly labeled and marked. You won’t have any difficulties operating your new ice blender:

  • Power – On/Off
  • Low – Processing & Mixing
  • Medium – Blending & Ice Crushing
  • High – Pureeing & Liquefying
  • Pulse – Controlled Chopping & Processing

If you want to crush ice, simply choose the Medium Setting, and the Ninja will turn ice into snow in seconds. The blades are so designed that you’ll never have to deal with ingredients getting stuck inside again.

All of its components are dishwasher safe, just put it in your dishwasher and wash it along with all your other dishes. The Ninja comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

What are you doing with this crazy machine again? Crushing Ice:

Cons: The warranty is short at only one year. You have to be cautious when cleaning the blades; they are super sharp. Handle form the ends and run hot water over the blades or toss it in your dishwasher.

Overall Opinion: The Ninja BL610 is the best blender for crushing ice if you’re on a tight budget and don’t want to spend more than necessary. It works perfectly as an ice crushing blender. The blade design and the Total Crushing Technology take it to a level that’s higher than any other blender in this price range. Other customers seem to agree with me, as it continues to be a bestseller and has 1,000’s of positive reviews.

2. Ninja Chef 1500 CT805 | The Beast

The Ninja Chef comes with a powerful 1500-watt base, that will help you crush ice in no time to a super fine level. It’s Ninja’s most powerful blender to date. The blade design is very similar to a Vitamix.

Gone is the old manual dial switch and outdated control panel. The Ninja Chef comes with a LED interface that is easy to use and clean.

It blends and pulverizes even the toughest ingredients including leafy greens and tiny berry seeds. You can make green smoothies, salsas, ice creams, frozen drinks, protein shakes, nut butter, hummus, and even hot soups.

The blender is pretty smart, and it tells you the optimal timing for most tasks. Choose one of the 10 pre-set AutoiQ programs, and the Ninja will do all the work for you:

You can always run the Ninja manually. The 10 Manual Speeds give you complete control over your blend. The blender has a digital timer that will count down the different pre-set programs or counts up when you’re using manual speed.

Like the Ninja BL610 the Ninja Chef comes with a BPA-free 72 oz pitcher. It’s made from Tritan plastic, is shatterproof and resists stain even after years of use.

See a full review here:

Another great feature of the Ninja Chef is the hot blending mode. The blender allows you to mix hot ingredients and make homemade, healthy soups.

See how this blender performs at making peanut butter:

There’s no guesswork involved. You select the preset nut butter function, press one button and you’re good to go. You control exactly what’s going in there.

You won’t have any difficulties cleaning your new ice blender. Just select the Cleaning Function, and the Ninja Chef will clean itself, while you are doing other kitchen tasks:

All removable parts are dishwasher safe. The Ninja Chef comes with a 1-year limited warranty and a 50-Recipe Inspiration Guide.

Cons: The warranty is short at only one year. Like other high-powered blenders, the 1500-watt motor is noisy. The blender unit is 18 inches tall; it may not fit under your cabinet space.

Overall Opinion: The blender crushes ice with ease and is a powerful blender for a relatively low price. It opens up a world of possibilities. You can make healthy smoothies, sauces, salsas, soups, nut milk, nut butter and much more. You can control what’s going in and how much sugar and calories are added.

3. Ninja Master Prep | Budget Pick

So you want to get the best blender for crushing ice at the lowest price possible? Then consider the Ninja Master Prep. It’s the most affordable blender on this list and does a great job at crushing ice:

The Master Prep has a unique design. It comes with one motorized part, which is called the “power head”. The 450-watt motor fits over the top of the three included bowls.

The 48 oz pitcher is perfect for your smoothies and frozen desserts. The 40 oz bowl is for food processing and meal preparation. Last but not least the 16 oz bowl is for chopping vegetables and making salsas.

The blade design is similar to the Ninja BL610. The blades work surprisingly well for crushing ice, frozen drinks, frozen desserts, smoothies, baby food, ice cream, and salsas.

The problem with most blenders is that they are heavy and take up too much space. You won’t have that issue with the Master Prep. It’s a compact device and won’t take up much space on your countertop.

There’s no complicated control panel, and it only has one speed. No matter if you are crushing ice, making smoothies or chopping vegetables, you simply push the power head down and the Master Prep starts working.

See a full review here:

All parts are microwave and dishwasher safe. For those concerned about nasty chemical, all plastic parts are BPA-free. The Ninja Master Prep comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

Cons: There’s no hands-free function, you have to keep your hand on the cup for the motor to keep going. The 450-watt motor limits its functionality. However, if you want a good blender for crushing ice and simple blending tasks, the Ninja Master Prep is a good choice.

Overall Opinion: The Prep Master is a huge seller due to its excellent performance and low price. It’s ideal for crushing ice, frozen drinks, smoothies, salsa, chopping vegetables, and other simple blending tasks. If you want a compact, lightweight ice crushing blender, the Master Prep is a good choice.

4. Oster Reverse Crush | Runner-Up

The Oster Reverse Crush has 1000 watts of power and comes with a 48 oz glass jar. The jar is made out of borosilicate glass, which is more durable and resistant to temperature changes. Glass jars won’t leach any chemicals like plastic can.

In addition to the 5 Manual Settings “Low”, “Medium”, “High”, “Low-Pulse”, and “High-Pulse” there are two preprogrammed settings: “Frozen Drinks” and “Food Chop”. These seven different blending modes are good enough for most simple blending tasks.

This blender can crush ice without any problem. Just use the pre-set Frozen Drink or High-Speed Setting, and the Oster Reverse Crush is sure to crush ice into snow in no time.

With the Frozen Drink Setting, the blender automatically stops and reverses several times before thoroughly blending on High-Speed for several seconds. This allows the ice to fall back down and ensures a good blend. If you use the High-Speed Setting make sure you’ll keep an eye on it, as the carafe can sometimes jump off the base.

The motor is strong enough to make smoothies and frozen drinks, crush ice and chop foods. However, the Oster Reverse Crush is not a high-powered blender and only has 600 watts of blending power. So don’t expect it to perform too well with more advanced tasks like making nut butter.

This ice blender is not as big as those professional style blenders. It won’t take much space on your countertop and will most likely fit under your kitchen cabinet. The glass jar is dishwasher safe; you can simply put it in your dishwasher and wash it along with all your other dishes.

The Oster Reverse Crush comes with a 3-year warranty and a 10-year limited warranty on the Duralast All-Metal Drive. Oster claims that this All-Metal Drive blends up to 10,000 smoothies and should outlast plastic drives by far. The blender is made in North America.

Cons: If you use the High-Speed Setting, the carafe can sometimes jump off the base. You’ll have to babysit it while blending. Although I love glass jars, they’re heavier than plastic jars. The blender is loud when on High and it doesn’t blend things quite as finely as the Ninja BL610.

Overall Opinion: The Oster Reverse Crush is a decent blender for the money. It comes with a 3-year warranty, and it provides a reasonable performance. However, for a few more dollars you’ll get the Ninja BL610, which does a better job at almost everything, including crushing ice.

Section 2

Best Mid-Priced Blenders for Crushing Ice

1. Cleanblend 3HP Commercial Blender | Best Choice

So you’re looking for a similar performance like a Vitamix but aren’t ready for the price tag that comes with them? Then the Cleanblend might be right for you.

The Cleanblend matches most Vitamix models in terms of power with its 3 horsepower motor, yet it only costs half the price. It comes with a 64 oz shatter-proof BPA-free titan plastic jar.

The Cleanblend Commercial Blender looks very similar to the Vitamix 5200, and both have almost the same control panel. You won’t find a fancy touchscreen and LED lights, it has simple controls and is easy to use.

It’s equipped with an On/Off Switch, a 10 variable speed knob, and a Pulse Function. The option to select from 10 different speeds gives you complete control over how finely you want to blend your food and drinks.

The Cleanblend is designed to be a commercial blender that can liquefy pretty much anything. The blender won’t have any difficulty pulverizing even rock hard avocado pits into a healthy, delicious drink. Even the tiniest berry seed get pulverized with no residue left.

It crushes ice cubes into snow-like consistency in seconds.

You can make refreshing frozen drinks, dressings, desserts, ice creams, margaritas, sauces, bread dough, nut butter, nut milk, green smoothies, and even soup.

Just like other high-end blenders, the Cleanblend can make hot soups without pre-cooking. The process is the same as with a Vitamix. The blades are so fast that they bring cold ingredients to piping hot in 8 minutes.

From vegetables and spices to a healthy, homemade soup in less than 10 minutes. You have complete control over how much salt, sugar, and fat makes its way into your family’s meals and beverages.

The blender is super easy to clean. Just fill the jar with warm water, add a drop of detergent and run it at the lowest speed setting for half a minute and you’re done.

The Cleanblend Commercial Blender comes with a 5-year warranty. They also offer a 30-day money back guarantee without any questions asked. Cleanblend has one of the best customer services in the whole industry. If you ever encounter a problem with your new ice blender, they are sure to help you out. They provide you with easy to follow recipes on their website and on Youtube to help you get the most out of this beast.

Cons: It’s 19 inches tall so it may not fit under your cabinet space. Like all other 3 horsepower blenders, the Cleanblend is loud.

Overall Opinion: The Cleanblend is an incredibly powerful blender at a fraction of the price of other high-end blenders. It’s the best blender for crushing ice if you aren’t ready for the price tag that comes with a Blendtec or a Vitamix. You’ll get almost the same results and power for half the price. It comes with a 5-year warranty and a 30-day no questions asked money back guarantee. If for any reason you are not satisfied with the quality or performance, they will refund 100% of your money.

2. Vitamix A2300 Ascent | The New One

When it comes to high-speed blenders, there’s one brand that always ranks at the top of blender tests: Vitamix. The Vitamix A2300 is their latest model from the Ascent Series. It’s the most affordable blender in the series and uses all the latest technologies.

It comes with a powerful 2.2 horsepower motor and a 64oz BPA-free container with a new clear lid. You can make large batches for up to 8 people in one sitting. The insulated container will keep your frozen drinks frosty and your steaming hot soup warm.

Compared to the older Classic Vitamix models, you are getting more power for your money. The older models only have 2 horsepower motors and the price is about the same. The variable 10 Speed Setting gives you full control over your blend.

The new motor is strong enough to crush ice into snow in seconds. You’ll be able to blend and process anything you ever want to. You won’t have to worry if your machine can do it or not, a Vitamix can do it all. You can make refreshing frozen drinks, green smoothies, nut butter, bulletproof coffee, HOT soups and so much more.

The high-spinning blade creates so much friction that they bring cold ingredients to steaming hot in 5-6 minutes. That’s a third faster than the Cleanblend 3 HP Commercial Blender. Vitamix doesn’t aim to have the highest horsepower. You really don’t need more horses, you need trained ones.

The built-in wireless connectivity is the major new technology from Vitamix. The blender uses near-field communication (NFC) to identify the container when it’s placed on top of the base unit. You can pair it with any self-detect containers.

You can buy containers ranging from 8 oz to 64 oz, and your Vitamix automatically identifies which size was placed on the base unit.  It will automatically adjust the blending time for the container size you have chosen.

The A2300 is almost 40% quieter compared to older models. There is a built-in digital timer on the new Vitamix, it takes away all the guesswork. Very few blenders actually offer a built-in timer, and it’s the number one thing I miss having on my older Vitamix.

The new clear lid is impressive. You can now look down into your Vitamix while you’re blending to check how it’s doing. For the first time, the Vitamix container is dishwasher safe.

Although it’s nice to have the possibility to put it in your dishwasher, you really don’t have to. Just add some warm water and a drop of detergent, turn it on for half a minute, and your new Vitamix will clean itself.

It’s 17 inches tall, so the Vitamix A2300 will most likely fit under your kitchen cabinet. You can choose your favorite color from four color options: Black, Red, Grey, and White.

The Vitamix A2300 comes with a 10-year full warranty and is made in Cleveland, Ohio. You’ll have an excellent ice blender for at least the next 10 years without ever having to worry about it.

Cons: Some people dislike the new clear lid, but I love it. The only thing I don’t like on a Vitamix is the price, these blenders are expensive.

Overall Opinion: With a Vitamix, you pay for power and durability. Countless Starbucks stores, smoothie shops, and restaurants use Vitamix on a daily basis. The Vitamix A2300 is a bit of an overkill if you’re only going to use it as an ice crush blender. However, if you’re serious with blending and a healthier lifestyle, it’s well worth the investment and will last you for many years to come. It comes with a 10-year warranty and is manufactured in the USA.

3. Margaritaville Bahamas  | The Frozen Drink Blender

Do you want to make bar-like cocktails and frozen drinks in seconds? Then the Margaritaville Bahamas is a great choice. It’s the smaller version of the Margaritaville Key West Frozen Concoction Maker.

It features the same Shave-N-Blend technology and automatically mixes the right proportion of ice and liquid together. It creates up to four servings of bar-quality frozen drinks in 30 seconds. You can make a wide variety of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Margaritaville Bahamas creates refreshing frozen drinks in two stages. First, it crushes the ice in the container above and releases the ice to the blending jar below. Then the crushed ice and all the other ingredients are mixed together in the blending jar. It does that all automatically. You simply fill in the ice and the ingredients, push one button, and you’re good to go.

There’s a tank at the back of the machine that catches the excess water of the melting ice, to make sure you’ll always achieve the best results. The No Brainer Cup will help you create the best-tasting cocktails in no time, see it in action:

There’s a manual switch, to make a more customized drink. With the Shave Only – Blend Only Toggle Switch you can shave additional ice or use the blending mode for longer. You can crush ice without having to blend it up by using the manual Shave Only Function. The shaved ice is perfect, there are no big chunks, just a nice snow-like texture.

Cleanup is a breeze. The blender jar is dishwasher and safe and all other parts can be cleaned by hand in less than 5 minutes. The Margaritaville Bahamas comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

Cons: The writing in the mixer can be hard to read because of the small size of the writing and color. The machine is quite bulky.

Overall Opinion: The Margaritaville Bahamas is the best blender for frozen drinks like margaritas, pina coladas, daiquiris, non-alcoholic cocktails and other slushy like beverages. It’s fun and simple to use. It creates perfect cocktails and frozen drinks with a simple push of a button. You don’t have to use it for alcoholic drinks, it works just as fine for iced coffee and tea, ice cones, frozen smoothies, and milkshakes.

4. Oster Versa | Runner-Up

The Oster is equipped with a powerful 1400-watt motor and offers 1100 watts of blending power. The blade spins at over 250 mph.

The blender is capable of making frozen drinks and desserts, green smoothies, hot soup, nut milk, nut butter and everything else you would expect from a high-powered blender.

It can finish any job you throw at it, including crushing ice:

It’s the first Oster Blender that is capable of making nut butter and hot soups. If you let the blender run for about 6 minutes, you have hot soup made from cold ingredients. It’s not boiling hot like in the Cleanblend 3 HP Commercial Blender or the Vitamix A2300, but it’s hot enough to call it soup:

The 64 oz BPA-free Tritan jar is large enough to make large batches for up to 8 people.

You won’t have any difficulties operating the Oster Versa. There are three preprogrammed setting: “Smoothie”, “Soup” and “Dips/Spreads”. The preprogrammed setting are timed and you can do other kitchen tasks, while the Oster Versa does all the work for you. The variable 8 Speed Dial Knob gives you greater control over your blend.

The Oster Versa is easy to clean. Just fill up the jar with warm water, add a drop of soap and pulse it for 30 seconds. Rinse off and you’re done.

The box includes two color cookbooks with delicious recipes. “Gourmet Cuisine” and “Fresh & Fit” include smoothie, soups, butter, spreads and baby food recipes. The Oster Versa comes with a 7-year warranty, which is unheard of in this price range.

Cons: Not dishwasher safe, but easy to clean by hand. Although the 1400-watt motor is powerful, it won’t give you the same fine consistency as the Cleanblend 3HP Commercial or the Vitamix A2300. Be careful with the tamper, it’s a bit too long and can potentially touch the blades. It’s not as durable as a high-end blender, but you’re covered by the 7-year warranty.

*If you want the Food Processor Bowl and the two Smoothie Cups, please make sure to select the option on Amazon. The link goes to the Blender Only offer.

Overall Opinion: The Oster Versa is a good blender for crushing ice, but it doesn’t perform as well as other high-powered blenders. It won’t crush large amounts of ice without adding some water. With the optional Food Processor Bowl, you can turn your Oster Versa into a decent food processor. The best part of this blender is the relatively low price and the 7-year warranty.

Best High-End Ice Crushing Blenders

1. Vitamix Professional Series 750 | Best Choice

When it comes to blenders, more often than not you get what you pay for. Vitamix blenders are considered the best on the market and the price reflects their incredible performance.

The Vitamix 750 comes with a powerful 2.2 horsepower motor. It’s a commercial grade blender that speeds the blades up to 270 mph at 37,000 RPM. It can easily crush ice and handle tough ingredients like nuts, tiny berry seeds, and hard vegetables.

Let’s see how the Vitamix 750 handles ice:

Perfect snow-like consistency in just a few seconds.

It’s not only the perfect blender for crushing ice, but it will finish any job you throw at it, including healthy, delicious meals. You can make nut butter, purée, frozen drinks and desserts, guacamole, salsa, green smoothies, pasta sauces, bread dough and even ice cream and HOT Soups.

The blades in the Vitamix 750 spin so fast that they bring cold ingredients to steaming hot in under 6 minutes. You can cook hot soups from your favorite ingredients right in your Vitamix. That gives you complete control over how much calories, salt, fat, and sugar makes its way into your family’s meals.

Compared to older Vitamix models, the Vitamix 750 is 40% quieter. It’s Vitamix’s quietest motor yet. Remember, it’s still a high-end commercial blender, so don’t expect it to be silent, but it’s not as obnoxious as other high-powered blenders.

You won’t have any difficulties operating your Vitamix. You’ll find variable speeds from 1-10 on one side of the dial and 5 pre-programmed settings on the left side of the dial. The preset functions are “Smoothies”, “Frozen Desserts”, “Soups”, “Purée” and “Self-Cleaning Function”. All preset functions provide great results and the Self-Cleaning Function is awesome since the jar is not dishwasher safe.

Just add warm water and a drop of soap and warm water, select the Self Cleaning Cycle and your Vitamix will clean itself in just a few seconds, while you are doing something else.

The next generation 64 oz BPA-free wide jar allows you to create large batches for your whole family. The container is smaller than the ones from previous models, and the blender will most likely fit under your kitchen cabinet.

The Vitamix 750 comes with a recipe book with delicious recipes that are specially designed for the preprogrammed settings of the blender. You’ll find a Getting Started DVD in the box, that will help you get the most out of this beast. The Vitamix 750 is backed by a 7-year warranty and is made in the USA.

Cons: The Vitamix 750 isn’t dishwasher safe, but the Self Cleaning Function gets the job done very well.

Overall Opinion: If you want a high-end ice crushing blender, that will last for many years to come, the Vitamix 750 is the best option. Vitamix builds the most reliable and durable blenders on the market. Countless restaurants, juice bars, coffee shops, and Starbucks stores use it on a daily basis. It comes with a 7-year warranty and is manufactured in the US.

2. Vitamix A3500 Ascent | The Smart One

The Vitamix A3500 is the best and most luxurious model from the new Ascent series. If you are looking for top of the line, look no further. It has a new touchscreen interface that looks absolutely stunning. The new series uses all the latest technologies and smart innovations.

The Vitamix A3500 comes with five preset programs “Smoothies”, “Hot Soups”, “Dips & Spreads”, “Frozen Dessert”, and “Self-Clean”. The five programs give you the same consistently blended results every time without fail. The Vitamix does all the work, while you’re doing other kitchen tasks.

The 10 Speed Settings give you more flexibility on how fine you want your recipes to be. The lid has a completely new design. It’s transparent and you can look down into your Vitamix while blending to check how it’s doing.

See a full unboxing here:

The blender has a digital timer that will count down the different pre-set programs or counts up when you’re using manual speed. It takes out all the guesswork. Very few blenders offer a built-in timer, and it’s the number one thing I miss having on my older Vitamix.

The Ascent series comes with a Self-Detect Technology and Wi-Fi. The blender detects through near-field communication (NFC) that you placed a container on it. You can buy additional containers ranging from 8 oz up to 64 oz and your A3500 identifies which size you placed on the unit. It automatically adjusts the blending time accordingly to the container size.

This technology not only adjusts the blending time, but it also prevents the blender from turning on if the lid isn’t secure. The integrated Wi-Fi connectivity isn’t used up to date but is an exciting prospect for the future. It allows your blender to stay up to date as technology improves.

So what’s the difference between the Vitamix 750 and the new A3500 and which one is better? It really depends on your preferences.

They share the same motor. Performance and blend quality are exactly the same.

The main differences are the new touchscreen interface, the built-in timer, clear lid, 10-year warranty, and the wifi connectivity of the A3500. If you prefer the classic look of a Vitamix, go for the 750. If you’re ready for the future and enjoy innovative technology, the A3500 is what you’re looking for.

Still can’t decide which one is right for you? Then watch this video:

The Vitamix A3500 jar is now dishwasher safe, but you really don’t have to clean it in your dishwasher. Put a little warm water and soap in the blender, select the Self-Clean Preset and the blender will clean itself in no time.

The new Vitamix is half an inch shorter than the Vitamix 750. Overall height is now 17 inches. It will fit under most kitchen cabinets.

The included “Simply Blending” Recipe Book will give you inspiration what your Vitamix can do for you. The A3500 comes with a 10-year warranty. You’ll have a great blender for at least the next 10 years without ever having to worry about it.

Cons: Some people dislike the clear lid and the touchscreen, but I love it. It’s all a matter of preference.

Overall Opinion: If you value high technology, modern design, and power, go for the Vitamix A3500. It’s the smartest and best Vitamix up to date. With its Wi-Fi capabilities, the blender will be able to adapt as technology improves. The powerful motor can handle just about anything you throw at it. It comes with a 10-year warranty and is made in the USA.

3. Blendtec Designer Series Blender | Runner-Up

The Blendtec Designer Series comes with a 3 horsepower motor, which is 0.8 more horsepower than the Vitamix 750. The Blendtec measures just 7 x 15 x 9.25 inches, which is small, compared to a Vitamix or other high-end blenders.

I love the way this model looks. Just a clean looking modern design, the touchpad controls look amazing.

It comes with a huge 90 oz Wildside+ jar, you can make large batches for your whole family in one sitting. The BPA-free Wildside+ jar is a five-sided container that will blend ingredients more efficiently because of the vortex it creates.

The blender has no dials, everything is digital from the presets to the variable speed control. You’ll love the touchscreen controls, they are bright and sharp looking and super easy to clean. It really stands out on any countertop.

There’s also some downside to the touchscreen controls. The presets are a bit harder to use than I would’ve wished for. The six different preprogrammed setting only show images and there’s some learning involved to get the machine running. However, once you’re familiar with the different icons, the blender is easy to use:

The six different presets are: “Batter”, “Ice Crush”, “Smoothie”, “Ice Cream”, “Whole Juice” and “Soups”. They all work really well and give you excellent results every time. Just select a preset and the Blendtec does all the work for you.

If you want to crush ice, select the Ice Crush Function and the Blendtec crushes ice into snow in seconds. In addition to the preprogrammed settings, there’s a built-in sliding sensor that allows you to adjust the speed manually. All touch controls are super responsive. As soon as you press the touchscreen, the blender reacts with no lag.

Like a Vitamix, the Blendtec is easy to clean. Just put some warm water and a dash of dish soap in the jar and let the machine do the cleaning.

You can get the Blendtec in three different colors: Black, Red and Stainless Steel. It comes with an 8-year comprehensive warranty.

Cons: The Blendtec Designer Series is louder than the Vitamix 750. The blender struggles when blending smaller serving sizes. So, if you’re making a lot of single-serve smoothies, I would recommend a Vitamix. The icons of the pre-set controls are not labeled. The Blendtec Designer Series has a slightly higher learning curve because it doesn’t come with a tamper. You’ll have to stack ingredients in a specific order.  A “Stack Like This” instruction guide is included in the box. The Blendtec is not as stable while blending like the Vitamix 750 or A3500.

Overall Opinion: The Blendtec Designer Series Blender can blend just as well as the Vitamix; it just has a higher learning curve. Both the Vitamix and Blendtec are powerful ice crushing blenders. If you’re limited on space, the Blendtec is a good choice. It’s one of the most compact high-powered blenders out there.

Best Personal Blenders for Crushing Ice

1. Nutri Ninja Pro BL456 | Best Choice

The Nutri Ninja Pro BL456 is one of the Pro 450/451/456 series. All of them are exactly the same device; they only differ in the number of cups and the recipe book that’s included. The BL456 comes with 2 Nutri Ninja cups and a recipe book with 75 delicious recipes.

The Nutri Ninja is the best personal blender for crushing ice. It’s inexpensive and crushes ice without adding liquid like no other blender in this price range. Even the more expensive Nutribullet 900 can’t do that:

The powerful 900-watt motor crushes ice into snow in seconds. It has enough power to blend and pulverize anything you put into. It handles tough ingredients like leafy greens, nuts, and seeds very well without leaving chunks. You can drink your smoothies and frozen drinks immediately out of the jar after blending.

With the Ninja BL456, you receive one 24 oz and one 18 oz BPA-free Nutri Ninja Cup. Each jar comes with secure flip top lids. You can take your smoothies and beverages with you in your bag without the fear of spilling.

The blender is super easy to use. Simply add your ingredients to the 24 oz or 18 oz jar, place it on the motor unit and hold your hands on the cup for the Nutri Ninja to start running.

See full unboxing and review here:

You can toss all the parts, including the blade, into your dishwasher and forget about it. The Nutri Ninja Pro comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

Cons: There’s no hands-free feature. You have to keep your hand on the cup for the blender to keep running.

Overall Opinion: The Nutri Ninja Pro is a powerful ice crushing blender. It crushes ice without adding liquids. It has enough power to blend leafy greens, ice cubes, nuts, seeds, and frozen fruits into a creamy, delicious smoothie. The cost is surprisingly low for a personal blender this powerful, it costs less than its competitor the Nutribullet 900 and creates better results.

2. Aicok WBL-003 1200W  | The Beast

Do you want to have even more power than the Nutri Ninja Pro can provide? Then this little beast might be right for you. The Aicok Personal Blender comes with a powerful 1200-watt motor. That’s more than enough power to crush ice into fluffy snow.

The blades have a unique six blades design and can pulverize ice cubes, frozen fruits, leafy greens and other tough ingredients in seconds. If you want to make your own delicious nut milk, soups, baby food or even grind coffee beans, go for the Aicok. It’s one of the most powerful personal blenders out there and does it all.

I know you’ll love the one-touch programs and the LED display. The blender has a built-in timer and displays the exact working time. It also comes with two presets “Blend” and “Extra Blend”. You just have to press one button and it does all the work for you.

Its smart programs blend, pause, and pulse automatically. Select the Blend Cycle for example, and it blends, then stops for a couple of seconds and continues to blend. It repeats this cycle for 45 seconds until your smoothie has the perfect smooth texture.

The Extra Blend Setting goes through a series of blends and pulses for 60 seconds. It automatically adjusts the speed and stops briefly to allow the ingredients to settle before it starts again. It takes out all the guesswork and gives you great results every time.

If you want to make frozen drinks without having to stop and shake the jar, you’ll definitely love this feature. You can walk away, come back in 60 seconds and your drink is ready. It also has a Manual Setting, once you’ve selected it the timer starts counting up and shows you how long you’ve been blending.

The Aicok 1200W comes with two cups, one large 35 oz cup, and one 28 oz pitcher. Both jars are BPA-free, so you’ll never have to worry about nasty chemicals in your smoothies.

See how the Aicok crushes ice:

Aicok is confident with the quality of the blender, it comes with a two-year replacement or repayment warranty. The customer service is top notch, you can contact them 24 hours a day.

Cons: The 1200-watt motor is loud. It’s also bigger than the Nutri Ninja. I love the large 35 oz and 28 oz pitchers, but some people may find them too big.

Overall Opinion: If you want to have the most powerful personal blender for crushing ice, go for the Aicok 1200W. The strong motor breaks the ice down nicely, without leaving any chunks. You can make green smoothies, nut milk, soups, baby food and even grind coffee beans. For almost the same price as a Nutribullet 900, this beast delivers more features and power.

These are the best ice crushing blenders. No matter which price range you choose, they all excel at crushing ice. All the blenders listed here come with powerful motors, heavy-duty jars and specialized blades that perform especially well with ice. 1. Thanks for this article. I have always brought the wrong ice blender.  I wasted a lot of money on a blender believing that it is the best one for ice blender but when I used them they do not last up to a week before they develop fault but that is all over because this post has helped me to identify the best blender for crushing ice I do not have to waste my money anymore because the blender i brought recently following what was been thought by the author has been working fine for almost there weeks now, I want to thank you for this post once again, thank you very much.

    • Hi there,

Yes, that’s the problem. Most manufacturers claim their model can crush ice, but not all of them will. All models introduced here are excellent blenders for crushing ice. I hope your blender will serve you for many years to come.

  2. First I was totally sold on the Ninja Blender BL610, as it seemed to have everything  I was looking for in a powerful blender. Until I saw the Margaritaville Bahamas! I drink healthy smoothies everyday, but on Friday nights I want to relax a bit a make myself a frozen Margarita. Just looking at that machine, I know I’m gonna love it!

    • Hey Laura, I love the Margaritaville Bahamas. It’s a pretty versatile machine,  you can make much more than just margaritas and cocktails. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  3. Hey Phil, great article. I wish I had’ve seen it before my mother got my wife and I the blender she did because some of the blenders in your article look and were just plain awesome. I mean, a blender that cleans itself; you only hear about that in testing laboratories but you brought the future to the present. Do you have any of the blenders in the article, if so, which one and do you let it clean itself while you’re doing other things? Anyway, your article was an awesome read. Great job!

    • Hi,

I own the Nutri Ninja Pro and a Vitamix 5200. They don’t have a self-cleaning function, but pretty much every blender can clean itself. Simply add some warm water, a drop of soap and turn it on for a few seconds.

I have to admit these self-cleaning cycles in newer models are awesome. I had the Vitamix A3500 for 2 weeks at home and I loved the presets. I’m actually thinking about replacing my 5200 for a A3500… we‘ll see.

  4. Cory Haasnoot

I can’t count the number of times I have tried to crush ice in a blender only to have the blades get mangled. Sometimes I can bend them back but it just isn’t worth the hassle. Thanks for doing the research on ice crushing blenders. Now I can get a decent blender that won’t break the blades when I crush ice. Getting one of these blenders will be better than crushing the ice with a hammer which is the way I have been doing lately.

  5. I have recently bought a blender for my smoothies and if I have just seen this article a bit earlier I would have definitely gone with this choice… just by reading the article and watching the videos of everything in action got me hooked… Is it the blender or is it the way you put the words together? I don’t but is really love this Article the way everything is broken down.will definitely save this page.. hope you keep publishing articles on blenders because I will be coming back to buy one of these when am shopping again…

  6. Not every blender can crush ice, I can tell from my little experience of using blenders. I still remember putting on and off a blender after every two minutes to prevent it from packing up because we were using it crush ice it wasn’t meant to crush. this article is indeed very useful in helping people make the best choice as regards to blenders that can crush ice.

    • You are right, some blenders aren’t made for the job. Crushing ice is one of the more difficult tasks for a blender and requires some more blending power.

  7. David Guffey

Ice crushing and every blender with specs, if you are interested in finding the best blender for ice crushing this where you come 🙂

I had a Vitamix the last 7 years and it did a great job and still going strong, but it’s time for something new. I’m not sure if I go for the new A3500 or a Blendtec, kind of a hard decision. Bookmarked your article and hopefully by the end of next week I’ll have decided.

  8. Julia Thaddeus

    Hi Phil,
I used two blender Ninja Chef 1500 CT805 & Nutri Ninja Pro BL456. What I found is Ninja pro is an awesome blender for professional use. It helps me a lot in my Juice Bar to crush ice. You wrote such an honest review I must say. Best of luck buddy. Keep it up.

    • Philipp Brohl

Thanks, Julia. Glad, you liked my review. The Nutri Ninja is a great little blender. Wish you all the best!
