Why the Alkaline Diet Works

The alkaline diet is based on good old-fashioned healthy eating habits. If you’re following this diet, you’re getting more of the “good stuff” and less of the “bad stuff”. 

Following the alkaline diet means choosing healthy leafy greens, fruits, seeds, and nuts. You’re also cutting back on processed foods, meat, coffee, alcohol, and other unhealthy choices. 

There aren’t that many scientific studies to test the alkaline diet, but it’s irrelevant.

I was following a strict alkaline diet for many months. I’ve never felt this good before in my life!

The energy this diet gives me is out of this world. 

Cutting back on high-fat, high-calorie foods and replacing them with healthy greens is always a good choice!  

We don’t need any scientific evidence to prove that. Once you’ve experienced how good you can feel, you’ll never go back to your old ways.

Losing weight is only a side effect.

More important than losing weight, is how you feel during the process.

The whole point of changing diet and adopting a healthier lifestyle is to make you feel better! 

The alkaline diet can help you achieve both. Losing weight and feeling more energized at the same time. 

Start slow. Gradually cut out acidic foods and replace them with healthier, alkaline alternatives. You’ll start building momentum and soon you’ll find yourself unstoppable on your journey to health and vitality.

Juicing and the alkaline diet are a perfect fit.

One of the easiest ways to incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet is by juicing them!

It doesn’t take much time to make a few ounces of fresh juice in the morning. You can have a wide variety of fruits and veggies concentrated in one glass of juice.

Replacing your daily coffee with fresh vibrant juice may be the best decision you’ll ever make. Fresh, alkaline juice can energize you like nothing else!

If you’re new to juicing, start with simple fruit juice recipes. I’ve got a great alkaline fruit juice recipe for you a little down below.

Once you’re ready for it, it’s time to add some veggies to your juices. Carrots and beets are good choices for juicing beginners. They’re alkaline and sweet in taste as well.

Some leafy greens like kale can taste quite nasty if you overdo it. Always add some sweet fruits to your green juices to balance the taste.

When you’re new to juicing leafy greens, start slow and work your way up! 

In the beginning, a 50/50 ratio can be a good choice. 50% veggies and 50% fruits in a juice. 

Once you’re more experienced, you should aim for an 80/20 ratio. That is 80% veggies and 20% fruits.

Ingredients for Alkaline Juices

Wheatgrass – health enthusiasts love wheatgrass and that’s for a good reason! It is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. It’s highly alkalizing and rich in chlorophyll. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. You could grow your own wheatgrass and make wheatgrass shots, or simply add the powder to your juices. If you decide on wheatgrass powder, please make sure it’s organic and purchased from a trusted supplier. 

Spirulina & Chlorella – are green algae that grow in freshwater. Both types of algae are highly alkaline and extremely nutrient-dense. They provide a wide range of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals in a concentrated form. The best way to supplement spirulina and chlorella is in tablet or powder form. I prefer tablets as I dislike the taste of the powder. Whatever you choose, please make sure to go for a certified organic supplement. 

Celery – is rich in minerals like iron, sodium, and magnesium. Fresh celery juice can be very alkalizing. It’s packed with antioxidants that may help fight inflammation. 

Parsley – is another alkalizing food. It’s When consumed on a regular basis, parsley may help cleanse our bodies. It’s a great herb to energize you whenever you feel exhausted. I love adding parsley to my green juices and using it in at least one meal a day. 

Turmeric – is a great ancient spice to add to your alkaline juice recipes. It’s believed to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. If you’re juicing fresh turmeric, please make sure to immediately clean your juicer after juicing. Turmeric stains can be nasty! If you want to prevent stains, you could also add organic turmeric powder to your juices instead of juicing turmeric root.

Lemons & Limes – although sour in taste, can be very alkaline. In its natural state, these citrus fruits are acidic. However, once your body digested them, they actually become alkaline with a pH above 7. I love using limes and lemons in my juices, they make almost any juice taste better

Leafy Greens – like kale, broccoli, spinach, Swiss chard, watercress, etc. are the veggies you want to use most often in your alkaline juice recipes. Leafy greens are not only alkalizing, they’re one of the healthiest foods you can get your hands on. Juicing is an easy way to incorporate a wide variety of greens into your diet. 

Beets & Carrots – root vegetables like beets and carrots are great for balancing acids. They have a sweet pleasant flavor and taste great. They can be just what you need to improve your overall health.

Here’s a great alkaline juice recipe. It’s a green juice, but it doesn’t taste too green. Spinach’s and celery’s flavor is actually quite mild. Pear and lemon make this alkaline juice even more delicious.

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups spinach 
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 pear
  • 3 stalks celery
  • a small handful fresh parsley

How to Prepare:

  1. Wash all produce well
  2. Chop the pear into smaller pieces
  3. Chop the celery stalks into 1-inch pieces, if you’re using a slow juicer
  4. Peel the lemon, if it’s not organic. I like to juice organic lemons with the peels on.
  5. Juice all ingredients.
  6. Give it a good stir.
  7. It’s best to drink this alkaline juice immediately. Enjoy! 

2. Green Alkalizing Juice

If you’re ready for some kale in your life, here’s an alkalizing juice recipe. Kale is one of the nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Unfortunately, green juice with kale can taste quite nasty if you don’t know what you’re doing. Always add some sweet fruits like apples, pears, pineapples, etc. when you’re making kale juice. Adding lemons and limes are also good for making almost any green juice taste great. 

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 large kale leaf, roughly chopped
  • ½ head Romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 ½ cups pineapple, cut into chunks
  • 1 lemon

How to Prepare:

  1. Wash the kale and Romaine lettuce well.
  2. Cut the pineapple flesh into chunks. You can juice the core as well.
  3. You can juice the pineapple skin if you’re using a centrifugal juicer. 
  4. Peel the lemon if it’s not organic.
  5. Juice all ingredients

3. Turmeric Ginger Citrus Miracle

Ginger and turmeric have been used for centuries to fight inflammation. This juice harnesses the power of both turmeric and ginger and may aid in your health journey. 

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 oranges
  • 1 lemon

  • ½-inch fresh turmeric piece

How to Prepare:

  1. Peel the oranges. I wouldn’t juice the skin as it makes the juice too bitter. 
  2. Peel the lemon if it’s not organic
  3. Peel the ginger and turmeric.
  4. Juice all ingredients.
  5. Immediately clean your juicer thoroughly after juicing to prevent turmeric stains.   

4. Energizing Watermelon Juice

This is a great juicing recipe for beginners. Watermelon can be both alkalizing and hydrating. Combine it with some citrus fruits and you got a perfectly refreshing and healthy juice.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 small sweet watermelon

How to Prepare:

  • Slice the watermelon in half
  • Scoop out the chunks and discard the rind, if you’re using a slow juicer
  • If you’re using a centrifugal juicer, you can juice melon slices including the rind
  • Peel the lime, if it’s not organic
  • Juice everything in your juicer

How to Prepare:

  1. Wash the apples, spinach, and cucumber.
  2. Peel the lime and cucumber if it’s not organic.
  3. Cut the apple into chunks.
  4. Juice all ingredients in your juicer.
