What can I say about this low-cost, powerful gem that will convince you of its sheer awesomeness?
Let’s start with the fact that this baby can handle solid ice and other frozen ingredients like a higher tier model. In fact, with hardened stainless-steel blades, there isn’t much this blender can’t handle. Because it’s on the lower end, it won’t be as fast as the top-tier options, but what’s a few extra seconds of blending when money is tight?
This sturdy motor can plow through the toughest ingredients going over 105 mph and working up to 2.0 peak horsepower.
Being able to crush ice and frozen ingredients is great, but what about the noise? The Hamilton Beach Professional 1500W comes with a removable quiet shield (it’s in the name!) so you can decide if you need quiet blending or not. The shield can also be used as a serving pitcher—I’ve never seen anything quite like that at this price level.
A little more about the quiet shield—so you know what you’re getting—it’s not fancy or cumbersome. It’s a pitcher-shaped shield with a handle that you just slide right over the top of the blender. It’s just that simple.
There’s some airflow between the blender and the shield which helps add more sound dampening power, too. That particular design is common in the multi-piece sound dampening blenders, so this isn’t a unique feature. The hinged shield makes cleanup simple, though it can be a bit of a pain to reach some of the corners.
The sound shield has more air space around its 52oz jar than the other two blenders listed here. It wasn’t quieter than the previously listed machines though.
There are more sound dampening features. The muffled chambers around the motor are very effective. A stable base helps prevent rattles.
With a more compact design than most blenders of this category, it can easily fit under most cabinets. That means it’ll probably fit inside most kitchen storage areas too.
The innovative design features a domed lid, food-pushing glass jar, and a motor sensor that keeps everything moving smoothly. I liked watching this blender work. It had a visible vortex motion that was a bit mesmerizing.
Cons: Some reviews state that this blender isn’t much quieter than standard blenders. I can’t say I agree completely. If you want a true powerhouse blender that can handle anything you toss in without a hitch, but need a quiet machine, this is my top choice. What an impressive machine!
Blendtec is a big name in the blending world. Many of their products are used in commercial kitchens and smoothie bars everywhere. There’s a good reason for that. Blendtec machines have rugged construction that focuses on longevity, performance, and value for the money.
The Blendtec Professional 800 has a killer set of blades that are 80% stronger than typical blender blades. This means this beast can handle big chunks of ice and clumps of frozen ingredients without a hiccup. Oddly, these blades don’t rely on sharpness to do the work. They are blunt, which makes them much safer to handle and clean.
But blades are only as good at the motor that turns them, right? That’s one area this blender really stands out. The motor can rev up to 3.8 horsepower. Granted, this number was recorded in the lab, but the fact it can get that fast is an impressive feat. It should be able to power through everything you need to blend without any problems.

Cons: I can honestly say that I don’t see any downsides to this blender at all. I had to scour the internet to see what others have complained about. What I found amounted to user error and unrealistic expectations, if you ask me.
One person complained that the smaller jars “wobbled” when they were used at high speed. Most top-end blenders have warnings about what speeds to use for each size. Seems to me, this person didn’t read the instructions.

Are you a fan of Starbucks’ frozen drinks? If so, you may recognize the next blender on this list. The Vitamix Quiet One is the new favorite of Starbucks coffee bars around the world. As such, it’s a commercial product, but available for home use.
Vitamix is the gold standard of blenders, and when they made this one, they really stepped up their game. It’s only lower on my list than the Blendtec because the sound dampening isn’t as good. Otherwise, it’s phenomenal.
Six touch control buttons keep things simple and easy to use, but disguise the impressive 34 program options this blender provides. I can honestly say I’ve never seen a blender with more power and more pre-programmed options. This was a total blast to fiddle with.
The whole thing is easy to clean. It comes apart if needed and then snaps right back together without any issues. Most home users won’t need to pull it apart to clean it though, so that’s a great bonus. The sound shield is hinged and easy to operate while still doing a decent job of reducing noise.
Again, the sound dampening isn’t as good as the first blender on the top-end list, but that’s to be expected. Vitamix blenders are known for their power and unstoppable performance. Trying to silence a beast like this would be an impossible task.

It’s got five pre-programmed settings for convenient automatic blending. It can make things like smoothies, ice cream, hot soup, and so much more. All at the touch of a button. You can take total control, too, with a variable speed control and pulse setting.
It has a low profile so it can stay on your counter without taking up too much space. And trust me, it’s a pretty enough machine you’ll want to display it!

It made me laugh a bit though; it kind of looks like a space ship to me. There’s so much air space inside the sound shield it almost looks comical.

While this company is better known for lower or mid quality kitchen appliances, I feel that reputation isn’t entirely fair. This blender proves it.
You can tell just by looking at this blender that Hamilton Beach put a lot of thought into its design. It’s a big boy weighing over 19 pounds, so this isn’t going to fit in tiny kitchens or be easy to lug around. However, it’s a powerhouse with a 3-horsepower motor.
This blender boasts hundreds of preprogrammed cycles, so you’re sure to find the perfect match to your tastes. Here is another blender that claims not to need a tamper. Hamilton Beach seems to have perfected the unique design of their jar to have the food naturally flow down toward the blades.
You’ll notice right away that this blender also comes with that sound shield on the outside of the jar. This one is much thicker and tougher than the others I’ve tried. It does a pretty good job of muffling the sound, though it feels bulkier than necessary.
I don’t care for the look of this sound shield. It feels overdone and too big. I just don’t care for the design choices and how this looks on my counter.
I really like the sure grip feet on the bottom. I know most blenders have little rubber feet underneath, but these work exceptionally well. In fact, I found it very difficult to move the unit across my counter without lifting it up. That’s a good thing. The way these high-powered blenders shake can cause some concern for tipping or scooting off the edge. I wasn’t worried about this one at all.

Cons: There seems to be some concern over the durability of this blender. I didn’t get to test it long enough to see the problems for myself. When shopping for a personal blender, if noise is a concern, I have only one suggestion for you. The Hamilton Beach personal single serve blender. You may wonder why I don’t include the NutriBullet here, and I’ll get to that in a minute.
The Hamilton Beach personal single serve blender does not have a super powerful motor. However, most single serving blenders don’t. This is going to get the job done, but it’ll do it quieter than most other single-serve blenders.
It’s clear that Hamilton Beach designed this blender with small living spaces in mind. It can fit in just about any cabinet, or it can stay on a counter without taking up a ton of space. It’s great for travel, too. And because it’s so quiet, the people in the hotel room next to yours won’t even hear it.
It has a very simple operation. It’s just one touch with one button. With a 14 oz blending jar, you can fit quite a bit in here. The jar also functions as a serving cup.
Since this is a personal blender, and it was designed to be quiet, you’re not going to have a lot of power here. You probably won’t be able to chop up large pieces of ice.
The ice I used was quite small and already broken up. I chose that type of ice because I think most people will use this for travel, which means they’ll probably have access to a hotel ice machine that makes those small, easy to crunch pieces. It handled those just fine.

What are sound reduction boxes for blenders? If you don’t have a blender with built-in sound reduction, you can still add one. Sound reduction boxes are usually made of clear, thick plastic that you slip over the top of your blender. This will muffle the sound from the motor base as well as the blending jar.
The main issue to consider when purchasing and using a sound dampening box is air flow. If your sound dampener encloses the motor base, you will trap hot air produced from the motor. This can quickly overheat a powerful blender. Be sure to lift the shield periodically to release the hot air.
Is the NutriBullet quiet? Not really. It’s a blender, so it’s going to make noise. It’s not as loud as a standard blender, but it’s not quiet, in my opinion. It’s going to wake up a sleeping baby. Your neighbors will hear it if you live in an apartment with thin walls. There are better options for quiet blenders.
How do quiet blenders work? Blenders designed to be quieter use a combination of techniques and technology. Thicker housing for motors muffles the sound of the internal moving parts. Thicker glass or plastic in the jars helps reduce the clatter of hard ingredients and the whine of spinning blades.
Adding an outer covering further muffles sound. The air space between the outer covering and the blender itself adds another layer of sound dampening.
Some blender manufacturers have begun insulating the parts inside the blender chassis to help muffle sounds. The right rubber feet beneath the blender base can reduce counter vibrations as well.
I tested out many blenders for this article, I almost feel bad for my neighbors. But I’m glad I did the tests and the research. There were a few surprise entries on my list and some that didn’t shock me at all.
It was fun to see the new innovations in blender technology. It was even cooler to see how they could get those innovations in a blender that promised quieter operation. While I realize you won’t likely be testing several models side by side on your counters, I did have the opportunity to do so.
