Best Blender for Grinding Spices

5 Best Blenders for Grinding Spices

If you’re serious about cooking, grinding your own spices is the way to go. Freshly ground spices can give your dishes the perfect unique taste.

If you’re looking for the best blender for grinding spices, you’ve come to the right place. A little down below, I’ll explain why the best device for grinding spices, beans, grains, seeds, etc. might not even be a blender.

I’ll show you different types of electric grinders and blenders that range widely in price and features.

Are Electric Grinders the Better “Blenders” for Grinding?

If you’re only going to grind ingredients, I wouldn’t even go for a blender.

A small electric grinder might be the better choice. Compared to blenders, they’re small and super affordable. Electric grinders are designed for this kind of job, blenders are not.

If you’re sure you want a blender and not a grinder, don’t worry.

There are some blenders that can grind ingredients, and I’m going to introduce you to a few models as well.

Ground Spices

Blenders are great for making smoothies, nut butter, soups, or sauces, salad dressings, etc. So, if you’re looking for a versatile kitchen helper, that can also grind spices, a good blender might be what you’re looking for.

An electric grinder won’t blend ingredients, it’ll only grind them. Because of their small size, they’re easy to clean and store. They can be a great addition to a blender.

Without further delay, here are the best electric grinders and blenders for grinding almost anything you want.

5 Best Blenders for Grinding Spices

Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind – Grinds Ingredients in Seconds

The Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind is a coffee grinder, but you can grind pretty much anything. No matter if you want to grind spices, rice, grains, beans, or seeds, it’ll get the job done. With the stainless steel blades, it grinds everything into a fine consistency.

It’s a really simple machine.

There’s an off/button and that’s it. Simply push the button and pulse for a few seconds until you’ve reached the right consistency. You have complete control over how fine or chunky you want it.

The Hamilton Beach comes with a removable grinding chamber. It shows you exactly how much spices, coffee, etc. you can fill in. Once you’re finished grinding, you can remove the chamber for easy cleaning. The chamber is also dishwasher safe.

You can grind up to 9 tablespoons of ingredients in one sitting. It has the right size to grind enough ground coffee beans for up to 12 cups of coffee.

What I love about the Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind is how quietly it operates.

It isn’t whisper-quiet but compared to a blender or other electric grinders, it doesn’t make too much noise. It’s roughly 1/3 as loud as your average blender. You can grind ingredients early in the morning or late at night without waking up the house.

Another nice feature is the hidden cord storage. You can store the cord neatly and out of sight when you’re not using it.

To see the Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind in action, here’s a great review:

  • The Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind is very affordable
  • A small and simple appliance; fits even in the smallest kitchens
  • It’s much quieter than other blenders or electric grinders
  • Grinds everything into a fine consistency
  • Comes with a removable grinding chamber for easy cleanup
  • Dishwasher safe

  • You can only grind, it won’t blend ingredients
  • The cord is a bit short
  • Only comes with a 1-year limited warranty

Overall Opinion: The Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind is a simple and efficient electric grinder. It’s very affordable and a great alternative to a blender, if you want to grind coffee beans, grains, spices, etc.

NutriBullet – Great Blender for Grinding Spices

You’ve probably heard about the NutriBullet. It’s the most popular personal blender out there and is used by millions of people worldwide. If you don’t want just an electric grinder, but a blender, the NutriBullet is worth looking at. With the NutriBullet milling blade, it grinds coffee, nuts, grains, and spices, like a champ.

With an electric grinder like the Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind, you can only grind things and nothing else. A personal blender like the NutriBullet is super versatile.

With the NutriBullet you can make almost anything, including:

  • Smoothies
  • Juices
  • Baby Food
  • Hummus
  • Ice Cream
  • Salad Dressings
  • Homemade Soups

and of course, you can grind ingredients. The NutriBullet only comes with the extractor blade, which is great for making smoothies and blending ingredients. The extractor blade doesn’t grind things effectively though.

For grinding ingredients, you’ll need the milling blade, so please make sure to order it with your NutriBullet.

The NutriBullet comes with a 600-watt motor. That’s more than enough power to grind everything into a fine consistency.

If you’re a fan of fresh smoothies, you’ll love the NutriBullet. It comes with a 24 oz to-go cup and lid. It blends whole fruits and veggies into liquid fuel for your body in seconds. There’s also a nice recipe book included to get you inspired.

Cleanup is easy after you’re done blending.

Simply remove the blade, and rinse everything with soap and water. It’ll take you less than a minute. You can also put the cup in the top rack of your dishwasher. I’d always clean the blade by hand though.

  • Comes with a powerful 600-watt motor
  • It’s a versatile device and you can do so much more than just grinding ingredients
  • A 24-oz cup and secure travel lid is included
  • Comes with a great little recipe book
  • Works hands-free

  • In order to grind, you’ll need the additional milling blade
  • The warranty is short at only 1 year

Overall Opinion: The NutriBullet is a great blender for grinding spices. It’s a neat little blender that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. With the additional milling blade, you can grind ingredients into your desired consistency.

Vitamix E310 – Best Professional Blender

If you’re serious about blending, grinding, and doing a wide variety of kitchen tasks, a Vitamix is the best blender you can get.

There’s a reason why most restaurants and juice bars use Vitamix blenders on a daily basis. They’re made in the US, build like a tank, and incredibly powerful.

If you’ve ever researched Vitamix blenders, you probably know how expensive they can get. You could easily spend $600 and more for a Vitamix. Luckily, the E310 isn’t quite as expensive.

It’s more affordable than other Vitamix blenders, but it doesn’t mean it’s less powerful.. far from it.

Vitamix blenders really only come with two different motor bases. The 2 horsepower motor and a 2.2 horsepower motor.

The E310 comes with the 2 hp motor. That’s more than enough power for grinding spices, making smoothies, or even nut butter.

The E310 is so powerful that it can heat up cold ingredients to piping hot in just minutes. You’ve heard that right! This blender has so much power that it can heat up ingredients just with the friction of the blades.

You can make healthy, homemade veggie soup in less than 10 minutes. Without even touching a stove!

Simply add cold ingredients to the blender jar, blend on the highest setting for 6-7 minutes, and voila you have piping hot soup in minutes. How cool is that?

If you would compare the 2 hp and the 2.2 hp motor side by side, you wouldn’t see much of a difference. Then why pay more for a Vitamix, if this entry-level model gets the job done just as good?

Some of the more expensive models come with a fancy display, Bluetooth, or presets. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t need any of these things.

The E310 is what I would call a classic Vitamix blender. It comes with an easy-to-use variable speed dial with 10-speed settings. It allows you to grind, or blend ingredients with precision to your desired consistency. It also has a powerful pulse function whenever you need an extra burst of blending power.

A downside to the E310 is the shorter warranty, it “only” has 5-years of warranty. That’s still longer than most blenders, but compared to other Vitamix models it’s short. More expensive Vitamix blenders come with 7-year warranties, and some even with a 10-year warranty.

The 48 oz jar that comes with the E310 is large enough for small family meals. If you want a bigger jar, you can get it, but Vitamix jars tend to be expensive. Expect to pay almost $100 for an additional jar.

What I love about the low-profile 48 oz jar is that it fits under most kitchen cabinets, larger jars won’t. If you need more blending capacity, consider getting the Vitamix 5200. It performs as well as the E310 but comes with a 7-year warranty and a 64 oz blender jar.

  • Made in the US and built to last
  • Comes with a 5-year warranty
  • It’s one of the most powerful blenders out there
  • It’ll heat cold ingredients into a steaming hot soup in minutes
  • The manual 10-speed dial and pulse function gives you full control
  • Grinds everything into a super fine consistency
  • It’s the most affordable Vitamix blender out there

  • Even though it’s the most affordable Vitamix model, it’s still expensive compared to other blenders
  • Not the best choice for grinding small amounts of spices due to the size

Overall Opinion: If you’re only going to grind ingredients, a Vitamix is an overkill. If you want to make silk-smooth smoothies, healthy soups, nut butter, nut milk, flours, dough, frozen desserts, dressings.. a Vitamix blender is the best blender money can buy. The possibilities are almost endless. Once you’ve experienced how powerful a Vitamix is, you’ll never go back to your regular standard blender.

Shardor Electric Grinder – The Perfect Spice Grinder

The Shardor Electric Grinder comes with a decent 200-watt motor and a beautiful stainless steel design. It fits even in the smallest kitchens. What a beauty it is!

The sharp blades are made out of durable stainless steel and grind everything you put in evenly. This grinder is also very easy to use.

Simply press down the lid and release it once you’re finished. In seconds, you’ll have perfectly ground spices, coffee, grains, nuts, or beans.

You decide how fine or coarse you want it. The time you hold down the lid determines how fine the powder will be. You can stop at any time you want.

The transparent lid lets you control the consistency of your ingredients at all times.

The Shardor Electric Grinder isn’t as quiet as the Hamilton Beach Fresh Grind, but it’s still only half as loud as other electric grinders.

The removable bowl is super easy to clean and holds 4 to 12 cups of coffee.

  • The stainless steel base looks gorgeous
  • It’s more durable than plastic electric grinders
  • 200-watt motor has enough power to grind almost anything
  • Transparent lid lets you check the consistency while grinding
  • The removable bowl is very easy to clean
  • Comes with a coffee spoon

  • It can get warm if you’re doing a lot of grinding
  • Warranty is short at only 1 year

Overall Opinion: The Shardor Electric Grinder is a great device for grinding spices, beans, grains, nuts, and seeds. It comes with a beautiful and durable stainless steel housing. You can control exactly how fine you want your ingredients to be. The grinding bowl and stainless steel housing are very easy to keep clean. It looks great in any kitchen.

Mueller Austria HyperGrind – Affordable Electric Grinder

The Mueller Austria is another good blender for grinding spices. It can grind everything into a perfect consistency. Unlike a full-size blender, it takes up only minimal counter space. You can easily store it in your drawer as well.

No matter if you want to grind pepper, ginger, chilis, or peanuts, the Mueller Austria will do it.

I love the transparent lid that lets you check the consistency while grinding. Unfortunately, the grinding bowl isn’t removable, which makes cleaning a bit more difficult than it should be.

Other than that, it’s a really nice device.

It’s affordable and comes with a durable base and stainless steel blades. It operates pretty quietly and the price is reasonable.

  • One of the most affordable electric grinders out there
  • Very effective for grinding almost anything
  • Fits 7 tablespoons of coffee beans, grains, etc.
  • You can control the coarseness of the grind
  • It doesn’t overheat as quickly
  • 2-year warranty if you register it with the manufacturer

  • The grinding bowl isn’t removable
  • Not as easy to clean as the other electric grinders with a removable bowl

Overall Opinion: You really won’t need an expensive blender, if you’re only going to grind ingredients. The Mueller Austria HyperGrind is durable, affordable, and gets the job done. It comes with a 2-year warranty if you register it with the manufacturer.
