If you’re searching for the perfect smoothie recipes, you’re in the right place. Alton Brown, the creator, and host of the third longest-running Food Network series titled Good Eats has covered a lot of different topics in his show. When it comes to smoothies, he recommended two specific smoothie recipes that we’d like to share with you today. If you want to try a delicious new recipe we suggest you make an Alton Brown smoothie.
Alton Brown’s Tips for Making Better Smoothies
Before we get to the actual recipes, we wanted to share some advice Alton Brown gave for making better smoothies in the 13thepisode of the 13thseason of Good Eats titled “Live and Let Diet.” Some of the most notable tips include putting liquid in the blender before all of the other ingredients. After you put some liquid, your next step is to put leafy greens, and fruit afterwards. Following the fruit, you can add nuts, seeds, and sweeteners. It’s easier on the blender if you put the ingredients in this order.
Also, when it comes to adding fruit to your smoothies, it’s recommended you freeze it beforehand. You should always use frozen fruit instead of ice because it will provide the smoothie with better texture and flavor. Additionally, make sure you always start the blender on low speed and gradually begin increasing it afterwards. 1. Alton Brown’s Buff Smoothie
This is the perfect breakfast smoothies for people who love fruit. It contains two different types of berries, peaches, and bananas, all of which can give you an energy boost in the morning. The mixture of these four different fruits will provide you with a lot of different nutrients. Drinking just one serving of Alton Brown’s buff smoothie means you will consume more than 75% daily value of vitamin C. This is an incredibly important vitamin that your body needs for repair, growth, and development of all tissues. It is also an antioxidant, which means it can protect your cells from harmful molecules known as free radicals. On top of that, vitamin C is crucial for keeping our skin healthy.
The buff smoothie is a great source of manganese, a mineral with strong antioxidant properties that is essential to bone and brain health. Thanks to the nutrients that they posses, each one of these ingredients can provide you with some amazing benefits. Both blueberries and strawberries may have a positive effect on your brain function. Due to their high antioxidant content berries can help ensure you have a healthy blood flow, which is crucial for brain health. These two ingredients can help your focus and improve your memory.
What makes blueberries stand out is that they have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all common vegetables and fruits. This makes them so powerful that they may even slow down the aging process by reducing DNA damage done by free radicals. Furthermore, the antioxidants can lower the risk of your bad cholesterol getting oxidized, which can lead to heart disease. Strawberries are also an excellent food for improving heart health. On top of that, they can help with blood sugar regulation, thus decreasing the risk of type 2 diabetes and obesity.
Bananas are always a great addition to smoothies because of their unique, creamy texture. They’re essentially a binding ingredient that holds everything else together. They are thick enough not to turn into liquid after being blended and moist enough to blend properly. Bananas are also rich in fiber, a nutrient that’ll help you feel full for longer periods of time. This may prevent you from overeating and aid in weight loss. Peaches are an excellent source of fiber as well, which is why they may contribute to healthy digestion. It’s worth mentioning that a 2017 study found peaches have an incredible effect on the human skin, as they can help retain moisture.
What You’ll Need
- 4 ounces blueberries
- 4 ounces strawberries
- 4 ounces banana
- 4 ounces peaches
- 4 ounces pomegranate, acai, or grape juice
- 4 ounces plain, low-fat soy milk
How to Prepare
Following the advice from Alton Brown, you first pour the juice and soy milk into the blender and afterwards you can add the fruit. However, make sure the fruit is frozen before putting it in the carafe of your blender. Cover this mixture and refrigerate for up to eight hours. Start your blender on low speed and gradually increase it. You should blend on medium for at least a minute, as well as a minute on high speed. Note that this recipe serves 24 ounces, which means it’s for two smoothies. Serve immediately after preparing.
2. Alton Brown’s Mean Green Smoothie
While the first recipe focused heavily on fruit, Alton Brown’s mean green smoothie is more about vegetables. It can replace any meal and is the perfect smoothie to drink after a strenuous workout. The main ingredient, kale, is considered a superfood due to the health benefits it provides. It’s worth mentioning that this leafy green is the top lutein-containing food in the world. Lutein is a compound essential for maintaining eye health, as it can protect it from light and oxidative damage. Kale is one of the best sources of vitamin K, a nutrient that plays a very important part in regulating blood calcium levels, blood clotting, and bone metabolism.
One of the main reasons why it’s important to eat kale is because it contains some minerals a lot of people are deficient in, like magnesium, calcium, and potassium. On the other hand, celery serves as a great anti-inflammatory food. In fact, this vegetable contains 25 different anti-inflammatory compounds that can protect your whole body, and especially your digestive tract. Celery also contains at least a dozen different types of antioxidants and is an extremely low-calorie food.
Avocados help provide the creamy texture in this smoothie. They are loaded with heart-healthy fatty acids and fiber. One of the greatest things about avocados is that it can help you absorb nutrients from plant foods due to their high-fat content. Since there are quite a few nutrients that need to be combined with fat in order to be absorbed, avocados represent an amazing ingredient. Granny Smith apples can help you feel full and hydrated. They are a great source of vitamin C and fiber, and also possess various anti-inflammatory compounds. Meanwhile, limes are best known for strengthening the immune system, promoting healthy skin, and increasing iron absorption.
What You’ll Need
- 2 ounces kale
- 3 stalks celery
- ½ English cucumbers
- ½ avocados
- 1 lime
- 1 small Granny Smith apple
- 6 pitted dates
- 12 ounces almond milk
- 8 ounces ice
How to Prepare
Squeeze the juice out of the lime, remove stems from the kale, quarter the dates and cucumber, and coarsely chop the celery and apple. Combine all of the ingredients and begin blending at the lowest speed. Gradually increase the speed over time and be sure to blend at least one minute on medium and one on high. This recipe serves four portions. Serve immediately after preparing.
You know that a smoothie recipe has to be good if it comes from this celebrity chef. Not a lot of people were able to create a hit show that lasted as long as Good Eats. The reason they got to make 249 episodes is because Alton Brown regularly provided viewers with excellent information, tips, and recipes. Very few people know food as well as Alton does, which is why you’ll rarely find recipes that are this good.
