In reply to Edye. Hi Edye, you're right it should contain BPA. Yes, BPA can leach into your drinks, even if you make cold drinks. The FDA still claims low levels of BPA are safe, so it's not going to kill you. But yea, I would probably look to get a BPA-free container, if possible.

Hi Philipp- I bought a used Vitamix vm0103 Total Nutrition Center blender on EBay. It was made in Nov. of 1993. So, I can conclude that the plastic container has BPA in it. My question is, Will the BPA and or the plastic still leach into my blended contents if I only make cold and room temperature drinks? And is it known with absolute certainty that the BPA and plastic will leach. Thanks, Edye S.

In reply to Lorraine. Hi Lorraine, in 2007/2008 Vitamix switched over to BPA-free Tritan plastic, so I guess you should be fine. The 7 has to be accompanied by 'PC' to contain BPA. I know many BPA-free Vitamix models have a 7 on it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The best way to find out if your Vitamix model contains BPA is to check the manufacturing date. If it's before 2007, you can be certain it contains BPA. I believe the Vitamix 5200 model was the first to come with a BPA-free container.

In reply to A. Hi, I think you should be fine blending hot liquids in your Vitamix. These blenders are made for blending hot foods after all. On the Vitamix website, in their FAQ, I found that you shouldn't put liquids hotter than 170°F in your blender, so please make sure to follow that advice. Vitamix uses BPA-free Tritan plastic which is one of the most durable plastics you can find. I would be worried if you would be using a no name China device, but not with a Vitamix. Have fun blending!

Hi Philipp,
Thanks for this info. I’m pregnant and have had and used my vitamix for over 5 years! Just read that if you have used it with hot food the plastic will leech into contents going forward. And that the painted on interior numbers on the Steele comes off in the contents when using. Please help. – A

Hi Phillip, I have an older Vitamix blender and my plastic pitcher/blending container has a # 7 on it. Everything I am reading says that #7 has BPA in it. Can you confirm or deny this?
