I was about to make hot soup in my blender, then a thought came into my mind, are blenders heat-resistant? Can you blend hot liquids in a blender?

I’ve done a lot of research, and here’s what I’ve discovered:

No, most standard blenders are not heat-resistant. Blending hot liquids like coffee, soups, or sauces in a blender that’s not designed for handling hot ingredients could damage your blender or even cause injuries. If you need to blend hot foods, an immersion blender can be a good choice.

But there’s a lot more to know about blenders and blending hot liquids.

In a minute, I’m going to show you why blending hot ingredients in your blender can be dangerous. Some people even saw their blender explode while blending hot foods!

Also, there are some heat-resistant blenders that are specially designed for blending hot ingredients, I’m going to introduce you to some models later.

So, are you ready? Let’s dive deep into heat-resistant blenders and blending hot foods!

Can you put hot things in a blender?

If you can add hot ingredients to your blender or not really depends on the model you’re using.

Some blenders are designed for blending food, but most models are not.

Before you start blending hot ingredients with your blender, make sure to read the safety instructions and check if your model can handle it.

If your blender isn’t designed for blending hot stuff, just don’t do it!

What happens if you blend hot liquids?

If you’re blending hot liquids in your blender, steam will build up inside the jar. The hot steam can’t escape and pressure will start building up inside the jar.

The steam in combination with the fast-spinning blades can create enough pressure to potentially let your blender explode!

I’ve found some terrible stories on the internet about people who have seen their blenders explode and causing serious injuries while blending hot liquids.

Now, I know that some people use their traditional blenders to blend hot liquids even if they’re not designed for handling hot liquids.

You’ll find even tips on the internet like using less liquid than normal, covering your blender with a kitchen towel, or blending at low speed.

These tips might work for some, but I still would recommend not to try them. Is it really worth it to risk burns and injuries? For me, it’s not!

I’d rather invest a couple of bucks in a good immersion blender or a countertop blender that’s designed for handling hot liquids.

Can hot liquids really crack your blender?

Yes, hot liquids can crack your blender, if your blender isn’t designed to blend hot liquids. It happened to thousands of people before and it could happen to you if you’re not careful.

In the best case the hot liquid only makes a mess in your kitchen. In the worst case you’ll end up seriously injured.

This is worth mentioning a couple of times, because it is so important: don’t ever blend hot liquids in a blender that can’t handle hot stuff. If you want to blend hot food in your countertop blender, the money on a Vitamix or a cooking blender is well invested.

What blenders can handle hot liquids?

There are full-size blenders that can handle hot liquids, some models are even designed to blend hot foods. These blenders come with heating elements, so you can cook your food while blending. Blenders with heating elements are also called cooking blenders.

Other models have powerful motors and can heat up cold food while blending just with the friction of their blades. All Vitamix blenders are so powerful that you can make hot soup out of cold ingredients. Of course their blender jars are so designed that they can handle hot liquids easily.

Can you use a hand blender for hot food?

Yes, you can use a hand blender for blending or pureeing hot foods. Making hot soups and sauces is pretty much exactly what they were designed for.

For most people, hand blenders, also called immersion blenders or stick blenders, might be even better for blending hot foods than a regular countertop blender.

A hand blender is relatively affordable and very easy to clean. You can use it directly in the pot. There are a few things to consider before you can start blending in your expensive kitchenware with a hand blender, so please make sure to check out: do immersion blenders scratch pots?

Also, make sure to let your hot foods cool first a little. The food should never be boiling while blending. Always hold a kitchen towel over the lid while blending to avoid splashes.

Why blend soup in a blender if you can use a stick blender?

If you want to use a full-size blender or hand blender for blending hot food really depends on your budget and needs.

Hand blenders are great because they’re easy-to-use and clean. They’re also versatile and affordable. You can get a good hand blender for less than $50.

Full-size blenders, on the other hand, are very convenient but take slightly more time to keep clean. They’re also more expensive. A good cooking blender can cost you $100 and more, while a Vitamix will cost you a couple hundred bucks.

If you decide on a cooking blender or a Vitamix, you just need to put in the cold ingredients, push one button, and the blender will do all the work for you while you can do something else.

The best heat-resistant blenders

The best heat-resistant blenders are simple hand blenders like the Mueller Austria immersion blender. This compact stick blender fits even in the smallest kitchens. You can easily blend hot foods right inside the pot. Since this blender is made out of stainless steel, it’s very durable and won’t leach nasty chemicals into your blend.

If you want a countertop heat-resistant blender, consider getting either a Vitamix (the Vitamix E310 is the best value for the money) or a cooking blender with a heating element like the Ninja Foodi Hot & Cold blender.

How to minimize splatter using an immersion blender

Immersion blenders are easy to use but they can cause a mess in your kitchen if you’re not careful. Here are a few tips so you can use your hand blender to blend hot food without creating a mess:

Your pot or bowl should be deep enough. The best container would be a metal container that’s much taller than it is wide.

Make sure that your hand blender is fully submerged in the liquid you want to blend.

Hold the hand blender at an angle or blend a little higher than the bottom to protect your pots from getting scratches.

Cover the pot with a kitchen towel.

When your blender is fully submerged, turn on the motor and start on the lowest setting.

Slowly work yourself up on a higher speed setting and blend until your blend has the desired consistency.

Switch off the motor before removing the hand blender from the soup or sauce.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether blenders are heat-resistant?

In this post, we took a deep dive into the world of heat-resistant blenders.

We covered why you shouldn’t use your regular to blender to blend hot foods, and we’ve learned that an immersion blender is usually the best choice for blending hot foods.

Don’t ever use a blender that’s not designed to blend hot liquids for blending hot foods. It’s not worth the risk.

I was in the mood for a coffee smoothie this morning, so I grabbed for my NutriBullet.

But before I could start blending, a thought popped into my head, are NutriBullets heat-proof? Can you blend hot liquids in a NutriBullet?

I’ve done some research and here’s what I’ve found out:

No, you can’t blend hot liquids in a NutriBullet. You should never blend hot ingredients like soups, sauces, or coffee in your NutriBullet because of safety reasons. Hot liquids could damage your blender or build up pressure and cause injuries.

I’m glad I did the research before blending hot ingredients in my NutriBullet.

I found some terrible stories about people who have seen their NutriBullets exploding and causing serious injuries!

So, I’ll repeat it one more time, DO NOT EVER blend hot liquids in your NutriBullet, it’s outright dangerous.

There are a few NutriBullets that are specially designed to blend hot stuff, but the regular NutriBullet 600 and the NutriBullet Pro 900 are not. I’m going to show you the NutriBullets that can blend hot ingredients later.

Also, there are a few things you should do to avoid injuries. We’ll be going through some safety steps as well.

Let’s dive deeper into the world of NutriBullets!

Can you put hot things in NutriBullets?

I’ll say it one more time, just to get my point through:

No, you should not put hot ingredients in a NutriBullet blender. Your blender could blow up and badly burn and injure you.

If you want to blend soup, sauces, coffee, or other hot liquids, you’ll need to let them cool down completely before blending.

Why NutriBullets aren’t heat-resistant

If you’re making sauces or hot soup and you need to blend or purée cooking ingredients, you should not grab for your NutriBullet.

The original NutriBullets just weren’t designed to blend hot liquids. The NutriBullet doesn’t have a pressure release valve and the steam can’t escape resulting in pressure building up inside the cup.

Putting hot liquids in your NutriBullet (or any other blender that’s not designed for hot ingredients) can result in a huge mess all over your kitchen, or even worse, injure you.

How to blend hot liquids

While your NutriBullet is out for blending hot foods, there are still ways to blend hot foods. The easiest way would be an immersion blender.

You could either get a corded or cordless immersion blender. I’ve written about it in detail here: are immersion blenders cordless?

With an immersion blender, you can purée soups directly inside the pot without having to transfer them into a blender. It’s super convenient.

NutriBullet also just came out with an immersion blender, you can check it out here.

The other option you have is either getting a cooking blender or a NutriBullet blender that can handle hot liquids. We’ll dive deeper into that topic later.

What happens if you blend hot liquids in a NutriBullet?

When you put hot liquids in your NutriBullet, steam will build up inside the cup. The steam can’t escape because the cup is closed, and pressure will naturally build up inside your NutriBullet.

The steam in combination with the fast-spinning blades can create enough pressure to potentially let the NutriBullet explode. It happened in some cases, and there are several lawsuits against NutriBullet.

Are NutriBullets safe to use?

Now that sounds scary, doesn’t it?

But before you throw your NutriBullet away, keep in mind, that every day millions of people use the NutriBullet to blend smoothies or other drinks. And in most cases, people are happy with their devices.

While there are cases where the blender exploded, most incidents probably happened because of misuse.

There are a few steps you must follow to use your NutriBullet more safely:

Make sure that you got an original NutriBullet blender, there are many counterfeit products on the market. Here’s how to spot a fake NutriBullet.

Read the manual and the safety instructions carefully before blending.

Never blend hot liquids in your NutriBullet.

Never blend carbonated drinks.

Don’t overfill the cup, as it could increase pressure inside the cup.

Do not let your NutriBullet run for longer than 60 seconds at a time. If you blend for longer it could cause the contents to overheat and the NutriBullet cup to explode!

Check the rubber seal around the blades often, if it’s damaged, replace it immediately. You can get a new one from NutriBullet.

Can you use your NutriBullet for hot soup?

I love making healthy, homemade soups. I usually use my cooking blender for making hot soups, because it’s so convenient. You can learn more about it here: are cooking blenders worth it?

But if you don’t have a cooking blender or an immersion blender, there are still ways to enjoy hot foods made with a NutriBullet.

Basically, there are two ways you can use a NutriBullet for making hot soup.

You either get one of the NutriBullet models that are designed for blending hot liquids and you can blend inside the jar.

You blend cold soup with your regular NutriBullet and heat it in your microwave or on the stove.

If you like the idea of having a blender that can handle hot liquids or even cook ingredients for you, I got great news for you. NutriBullet just released a few blenders that can make hot soup or sauces for you.

Which NutriBullet blenders can handle hot liquids?

There are a few NutriBullet models that can handle hot liquids without exploding. I’m going to introduce you to them here shortly.

NutriBullet blender combo

First, there’s the NutriBullet blender combo, it’s a full-size counter blender, you can check it out here.

This blender comes with both a multi-serving pitcher as well as a single-serve cup. Its powerful 1200-watt motor lets you make hot soups, sauces, smoothies, or nut butters with ease.

It’s one of the few NutriBullet blenders that come with a tamper. The pitcher has a vented lid cap that allows you to blend hot liquids. Keep in mind, however, that the smaller smoothie cup can’t handle hot ingredients.

NutriBullet Rx

The NutriBullet Rx is what a NutriBullet should look like. It’s a compact blender in the typical NutriBullet design with a powerful 1,700-watt motor. But unlike other NutriBullets, this model works completely hands-free.

To check the price and for further information, click here.

The NutriBullet Rx was made for soups and sauces. It has a built-in heating cycle and can create perfectly silky smooth soups, sauces, smoothies, and more. It comes with a 30 oz cup as well as a 1-liter pitcher.

The built-in heating element is genius!

When you want to make hot soup, just push one button, and the NutriBullet RX will cook it for you. It only takes this blender 7 minutes and the soup is steaming hot!

But you’re not limited to hot soups or sauces, the NutriBullet also makes ice-cold smoothies or frozen drinks like a champ.

For more information about blenders that can handle hot liquids, check these best blenders for sauces.

Are NutriBullet cups microwave safe?

Now, we know that you should never blend hot liquids in your NutriBullet, but are NutriBullet cups microwave safe? Can you at least heat soup inside the NutriBullet cups in your microwave?

I wasn’t sure either, so I contacted the NutriBullet customer service, and they referred me to their website’s FAQ. Here’s their answer:

“No, the NutriBullet cups are not microwave safe. Do not place the NutriBullet cups or other accessories in the microwave as this may damage your appliance.”

If you’re blending cold ingredients in your NutriBullet and want to heat them in your microwave, simply transfer them into a microwave-safe container first.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether NutriBullets can handle hot liquids?

I was glad I did the research if a NutriBullet can handle hot liquids before I was making a hot coffee smoothie. And I’m glad you did, too!

While NutriBullets aren’t designed for blending hot liquids, there are some newer and more advanced NutriBullet models that can not just blend ingredients, but they can cook soup or sauces for you!

When you’re using your standard NutriBullet blender, make sure to read the manual and safety instructions carefully. As I did the research for this article, I was shocked to hear some of the stories.

Misusing this device can result in serious injuries and burns, so please don’t take this advice lightly!

NutriBullet says the blender can be safely operated for up to 1 minute. While I have exceeded that in the past sometimes, I won’t ever go over 60 seconds again after reading some of those stories.

If you have any questions about (NutriBullet) blenders, please leave me a message in the comments section below. I can’t wait to hear from you.

I love my Ninja blenders! I have used them for years and they’re still going strong.

But since most Ninja blenders come with plastic jars and cups, I wondered, are Ninja blenders BPA-free? And are Ninja blender cups BPA-free as well?

I’ve done some research and contacted Ninja customer support. Here’s what I’ve found out:

Yes, Ninja blenders are BPA-free. Ninja blenders also don’t contain BPS or other bisphenols that are similar to BPA. The Eastman Tritan plastic Ninja uses undergoes a variety of tests and has been approved by the FDA.

But that was only the short answer to the question. There’s much more to know about BPA and Ninja blenders.

In this article, we’ll dive deeper into the BPA-free plastic Ninja uses for their blenders. Is it really safe?

Also, I’m going to show you the only Ninja blender that comes with a glass jar. It’s a versatile machine that can cook and blend at the same time. You’re going to love it.

So, stay with me. It’s gonna be a wild ride!

What is BPA and why is it bad for you?

BPA is a harmful chemical that been used since the 1960s to make plastic more durable.

It’s most often used in food cans, baby bottles (ouch), water bottles, blender jars, food containers, etc.

What’s dangerous about BPA is that it can seep out of plastics and get into your body. And it happens all the time.

In fact, tests conducted years ago have found BPA in the urine of more than 90% of Americans!

How harmful is BPA?

While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) believes BPA in small amounts may be safe, there are many health experts who think otherwise.

And in fact, studies have found that BPA can be toxic. It is believed to cause impotence, fertility issues, heart disease, and many other serious conditions.

It seems like young children and infants are especially sensitive to the negative effects of BPA.

BPA is already banned in some countries around the world, unfortunately, it’s still legal in the US.

Canada, Denmark, Sweden, France, and Belgium have already banned BPA in some instances, I hope the US will follow soon!

How to tell if plastics contain BPA?

It’s not easy to find out if a certain plastic contains BPA or not. The only way I know is by looking at the recycling number.

If the number is a 7 and it’s accompanied by ‘PC’, you can be sure that it’s polycarbonate plastic and contains BPA.

The best way to make sure your electronic devices or plastic containers don’t contain BPA (or other harmful chemicals) is to only buy products from trusted brands that are clearly labeled BPA-free.

Not all BPA-free plastics are safe! Cheaper no-name brands often have harmful chemicals in their plastics, even if they’re labeled BPA-free. More on that later.

Do Ninja blenders have BPA?

No, Ninja blenders do not contain BPA. The Ninja blender cups are also completely free from BPA. I found this information on several websites that were selling Ninja blenders.

But to make sure the information was right, I’ve contacted Ninja customer support in several countries (US, UK, and Germany) and essentially asked them the same question: “Are Ninja blenders BPA-free?”.

Their customer support was quick to help me out and they all gave me the same answer and here it is:

“Thank you for contacting SharkNinja Customer Care.
Yes, our blenders, jars, and cups are all BPA-free. The plastic we use in Eastman Tritan. I hope this helps. If you have any more queries don’t hesitate to contact us. This information can be found via our website on the FAQ’s section.”

I am not a plastic expert (and I don’t aspire to become one), but I was curious about this Eastman Tritan plastic that the customer support was talking about, so I did some further research.

How safe is BPA-free plastic?

Not all BPA-free plastic is the same. There’s a large variance when it comes to different types of plastics!

Often, the cheaper no-name brands turn to other harmful chemicals that are similar to BPA to develop BPA-free plastic.

These chemicals are just as harmful as BPA, but they’re not BPA, so they can be labeled as BPA-free and deceive consumers.

BPS and other bisphenols are some of the harmful chemicals that are often used in BPA-free plastics.

Once BPS gets inside your body (and nearly 81% of Americans have BPS in their urine), it could potentially lead to metabolic disorders like obesity, asthma, or diabetes.

It’s often very difficult to determine which plastics are really free from harmful chemicals. The only way I know is to buy from trusted brands that are only using high-quality plastics.

Luckily, Ninja only uses safe materials for their blenders. Vitamix is another brand that is safe, I’ve written about it here, are Vitamix blenders BPA-free?

Why do Ninja blenders have a cancer warning?

Now, if Ninja blenders are safe, why do some Ninja blenders have a cancer warning printed on the packaging or on the instruction book? It reads like this:

“WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

Sounds pretty scary, doesn’t it? Well, it isn’t quite as dangerous as it sounds.

The state of California requires companies to put that label on their products whenever they use potentially dangerous substances that are on their list. You can check the list out here, but I warn you, it’s a long list!

While the warning shows that the product contains potentially harmful substances, it doesn’t show what substances are present or where they are.

So, what’s the issue with Ninja blenders? Why do they have these warnings printed on their packaging?

I’ve once again turned to their customer support and here’s the answer I’ve got:

“We include the warning in an abundance of caution and to comply with the California warning mandate. The mere presence of even one of over 900 chemicals requires the warning. It’s not feasible to test for every single chemical, so we’re including the label with our products. Rest assured that all Ninja products are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations”

That answer wasn’t really helpful, so I dived deeper.

Do Ninja blenders contain lead?

I’ve found some information on the internet that Ninja blenders could contain small amounts of lead. It seems like the power cord is made from PVC which contains a minuscule amount of lead to make it more flexible.

I’m personally not concerned about it. Pretty much all electric devices that are corded contain PVC and therefore tiny amounts of lead.

Are there any Ninja blenders with glass jars?

If you’re still concerned about plastic, you might want to get a blender with a glass jar.

So, are there any Ninja blenders that come with glass jars? I’ve already written about this topic in this article, are Ninja blenders glass or plastic, but I’m going to summarize it here for you.

At the moment, there’s only one Ninja blender with a glass jar. It’s the Ninja Foodi, you can check it out here.

This blender is pretty unique!

It’s one of the few Ninja blenders that come with a tamper. Also, the Ninja Foodi has a built-in heating element inside the pitcher. With this blender, you can blend and cook at the same time!

Let’s say you want to make a delicious, homemade soup.

Just put in the ingredients, push one button, and this blender will purée and heat the soup for you.

In just a few minutes you have perfectly healthy and delicious, steaming-hot soup! And it does that for you with the push of one button, there’s absolutely no guesswork involved.

But you’re not limited to hot soups or sauces, the Ninja Foodi can blend anything a regular blender can. Smoothies, shakes, frozen drinks, nut butter, nut milk, etc.

The Ninja Foodi comes with 12 automated Auto-iQ programs. There’s even a preset for a heated self-cleaning function. Just add a drop of dish soap, a little bit of water, and the Ninja cleans itself.

I’ve owned this blender for several weeks now, and I love it! However, there a few downsides to it.

The blender jar is pretty heavy because it’s made out of glass. Also, the heating element inside the pitcher adds extra weight. It’s not as easy to move around like a plastic jar.

Also, you can’t submerge the pitcher into the water, as it could damage the heating element. Other than that, it’s a great device. It’ll do everything a regular blender can, plus you can cook without touching a stove.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether Ninja blenders are BPA-free?

In this article, we explored whether Ninja blenders and Ninja blender cups are BPA-free.

Ninja uses Eastman Tritan plastic, which is not only BPA-free but also very durable. It can retain its clarity for years to come and is mostly heat-resistant. Most importantly, it also doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals that are similar to BPA.

If you have any questions about (Ninja) blenders, please make sure to leave me a message in the comments section below. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

I love using my immersion blender, it can blend and puree almost anything in an instant. But since immersion blenders are often used in pots, do immersion blenders scratch pots?

I’ve used hand blenders for years and here’s what I know:

Yes, immersion blenders can leave scratches on pots if you come in contact with the bottom surface. Just hold it at an angle or blend a little higher than the bottom to protect your pots from getting scratched. Some hand blenders also come with silicone guards that can prevent scratches.

But there’s more to know about immersion blenders.

In a minute, I’m going to show you step to step how you can prevent your immersion blender from scratching your expensive cookware.

You’re also going to learn if a silicone guard to protect your pans and pots is right for you.

Let’s dive deeper into the world of immersion blenders!

Can you use an immersion blender in a pot?

Yes, you can use an immersion blender in pots. That’s what these versatile kitchen helpers are made for after all.

A stick or hand blender is also called an immersion blender because it allows you to purée food by immersing it directly in soups or sauces inside a pot or bowl.

But that doesn’t mean you should just start blending in pots without knowing how to use them the right way.

Before we can find out why some stick blenders can leave scratches on pots, we need to know how they’re built and how they work.

How immersion blenders work

An immersion blender is a hand blender with a small blade on the end. You could either get a corded or cordless immersion blender.

The blade is covered by a surrounding blade housing that’s either made out of plastic or stainless steel.

The housing not only protects your fingers from getting too close to the blade but also prevents the blades from touching the surface of your pots.

Because the blade of an immersion blender is surrounded by a blade housing, the blade itself won’t come in contact with your cookware.

Why hand blenders scratch pots

If the blade doesn’t come in contact with pots, why do hand blenders still sometimes leave scratches on pots?

It’s because of the blade housing that can scratch your pots if you’re not careful. And that’s where the problem lies.

Do all immersion blenders scratch pots?

No, not all immersion blenders scratch pots.

If you’re buying an immersion blender, you could either get one with stainless steel or plastic housing. Plastic housings usually won’t leave scratches on your cookware, but stainless steel housings can.

A few stainless steel immersion blenders also come with plastic or silicone guards on top of the blade housing. They’re designed to prevent scratches and they work pretty well.

While I prefer stainless steel immersion blender for a variety of reasons (I’ll explain it later), plastic models or stainless steel models with a plastic guard are the safest choices when it comes to preventing scratches.

Do immersion blenders also scratch pans?

Yes, immersion blenders will leave scratches on pans. Honestly, I wouldn’t ever use an immersion blender in a pan!

Especially if you’re using non-stick pans, metallic immersion blenders can easily ruin it.

Pans are usually too shallow and it’s difficult to not scrape the housing across the bottom. The coatings can be pretty unhealthy if ingested, so it’s best to avoid blending in shallow pans especially if it’s a non-stick pan.

If you still want to use your hand blender in pans, make sure to:

Only use it in high pans where your blender can be fully submerged.

Start on a lower speed to see how it works.

Try to avoid direct contact with the bottom, which can be difficult, because immersion blenders get sucked down by liquids.

In all cases, it’s better to transfer your food from a pan into a scratch-resistant mixing bowl so you have a deeper layer to work with.

Can you use an immersion blender in glass bowls?

I know people who use immersion blenders in glass bowls or mason jars, but I’m not one of them. I avoid blending in anything that’s made out of glass because it could chip or shatter.

I usually use stainless steel mixing containers. Sometimes I also use the plastic mixing bowl that came with my immersion blender.

Some metal bowls (like these ones) are made for blenders and mixers. They’re scratch-resistant and hold up very well.

Why I don’t like plastic immersion blenders

While plastic immersion blenders are inexpensive and won’t leave scratches on your pots as easily, I still prefer metallic hand blenders.

I once had a cheap immersion blender that was made out of plastic.

While I was puréeing a piping-hot soup for Thanksgiving dinner the plastic housing just melted away! Needless to say, I had to throw the soup away and I bought a stainless steel model.

Also, plastic models usually come with weaker motors compared to metallic models. If you’re blending a lot of tough ingredients like frozen fruits and ice, a plastic stick blender might not be the best choice.

How to keep your immersion blender from scratching pans and pots

When you’re blending with your hand blender inside pots, there are a few simple rules you can follow to prevent scratches.

Try to avoid getting close to the bottom surface or the sides of the pot while blending.

Keep in mind that blending creates suction and it helps to hold your immersion blender at an angle to prevent it from touching the bottom surface.

Avoid blending small portions in big pots. Your immersion blender has to be fully submerged in order to work properly and prevent scratches.

If you’re worried about your cookware and want to avoid scratches at all costs, then just don’t blend inside pots or pans with your metallic immersion blender! You could either get:

A scratch-resistant mixing bowl and transfer your food before blending.

A metallic immersion blender that’s protected by a silicone or plastic guard.

A plastic immersion blender, but make sure to not purée food when it’s steaming hot.

Follow these simple rules and your pots will thank you!

The best immersion blender that won’t scratch pots

There are a few stainless steel hand blenders that come with pan guards, so you can blend inside pots and pans without having to worry about scratches.

The models are all from KitchenAid because they patented it.

This KitchenAid immersion blender, for example, comes with a removable pan guard to help protect your expensive cookware. You can check it out here.

It comes in 9 beautiful colors that will fit perfectly in any kitchen. It has variable speeds and is easy to use and clean. A 3-cup BPA-free blending jar is also included.

This KitchenAid hand blender will even work on non-stick pans if you use the pan guard. It has plenty of power and will do almost any blending job.

Just in case you want a battery-operated and cordless hand blender with an included pan guard, KitchenAid got you covered.

This model (check it out here) blends up to 25 bowls of soup with one charge. It comes with the pan guard and a mixing bowl as well.

A cordless immersion blender will give you greater flexibility in your kitchen, but you’ll need to charge it.

With a quick charge of 20 minutes, you can make one smoothie or soup. A full charge that takes 2 hours will give you roughly 20 minutes of blending time.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether hand blenders scratch pots?

In this article, we explored whether immersion blenders can scratch pots and pans.

While it’s true that metallic hand blenders can leave ugly scratches on your cookware, there are a few simple rules you can follow to prevent them.

If you want to avoid scratches at all costs, simply transfer your food to a scratch-resistant blending bowl before puréeing.

You could also get an immersion blender with an included pan guard that, if you use it carefully, won’t leave scratches on your cookware.

I have been using my Vitamix blender for years and it’s still going strong. But since Vitamix mostly uses plastic for their containers, I often get asked, are Vitamix blenders BPA-free? Are all Vitamix containers free from BPA?

Here’s what I know about the plastic Vitamix uses:

Yes, all Vitamix blenders are completely BPA-free. For household blender jars, Vitamix only uses BPA-free Eastman Tritan copolyester. Vitamix blenders also don’t contain BPS or other bisphenols that are similar to BPA.

But there’s more to know about plastic, BPA, and Vitamix containers.

In this article, I’ll show you why all Vitamix blenders come with plastic jars. We’ll also dive deeper into BPA-free plastic. Is it really safe?

Last but not least, I’m going to show you the stainless steel container that Vitamix just came out with. You’re going to love it!

So, buckle up and hang on for the ride!

What is BPA and is it harmful?

BPA is a chemical that has been used to make plastic more resilient for decades. It was often used in food storage containers, food cans, baby bottles, water bottles, and blender jars… objects that come in contact with food.

BPA can seep out of plastics right into your body, and tests have found BPA traces in more than 90% of Americans!

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) thinks BPA in small amounts is safe, but some experts think otherwise.

How bad is BPA?

Research has shown that BPA can be toxic and it’s best to avoid it. It has been linked to fertility problems, impotence, heart disease, and other conditions.

It is believed that young children and infants are especially sensitive to the negative effects of BPA.

Because of safety concerns, some countries already banned BPA in some food packaging. It has been banned in Canada, France, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium… and it should be banned in the US too!

How to tell if plastics contain BPA

It can be difficult to identify which plastics contain BPA.

The only way I know is by looking at the recycling number. If the recycling number is 7, and the number is accompanied by ‘PC’, you can be certain it’s polycarbonate plastic, which contains BPA.

If you’re buying plastic storage containers or other plastics that come in contact with food or beverages, try to choose trusted brands and products that are clearly labeled as BPA-free.

I would advise against buying cheap no-name electronic devices that come in contact with food, or low-priced plastic beverage and food containers, even if they’re labeled as BPA-free. More on that later.

Do Vitamix blenders have BPA?

Vitamix has some of the finest blenders on the market. It’s the gold standard when it comes to blenders.

They’re more durable, versatile, and powerful than any other high-end blender you could get.

The only blenders that come close are Blendtec blenders, but they play in the same price range. And that’s the only downside to Vitamix blenders – they’re expensive!

If you pay several hundred dollars for a high-performance blender, you can expect to get only the highest quality materials.

Vitamix containers are plastic (and are good reasons for it, I’ll explain it later), but the plastic they use is top-notch!

Vitamix uses Eastman Tritan copolyester, which of course, is BPA-free. It also doesn’t contain BPS or other bisphenols that are similar to BPA.

Blending containers made with this Tritan plastic are clear, durable, and safe to use. It almost looks like glass, but it won’t break if you drop it.

Tritan plastic is also heat-resistant and you can easily blend hot liquids.

Have you ever experienced plastic losing its luster after years of usage? I sure have, but not with my Vitamix container.

I’ve used my Vitamix 5200 (almost) daily for years, and the jar still looks great. It doesn’t look new, but it’s pretty close.

That’s because Tritan plastic can easily retain its clarity even after hundreds of dishwasher cycles, it’s that good.

Vitamix not only uses Tritan plastic because it looks better, but it’s also more durable than cheaper plastics.

Vitamix blenders come with super-strong motors, these blenders are so powerful, that you can heat up cold ingredients with just the friction of the blades!

You better have a blending container that is shatter-resistant and durable when you’re blending ingredients like ice cubes at high speed.

Is BPA-free plastic safe?

Now, we know that Vitamix only uses BPA-free plastic, but is BPA-free plastic safe?

And the answer is, it depends! There’s a large variance when it comes to different types of plastics that are free from BPA.

Often, companies turn to use alternative chemicals that are similar to BPA to develop BPA-free plastic.

These chemicals are just as harmful as BPA, but they’re not BPA, so they can easily be labeled BPA-free… this is where it all gets complicated.

It’s difficult for you as a consumer to find out which BPA-free plastic is safe, that’s why I advise you to stay away from cheap no-name brands.

Not only do those often label their products BPA-free, even if they contain BPA, they also use BPS and other harmful chemicals instead of BPA in their plastics.

When chemicals like BPA are removed from the market, they’re often replaced by others that act similarly. So, if you’re shopping for a BPA-free blender, make sure to check if the plastic is also free from BPS.

The plastic Vitamix uses, is both free from BPA and BPS and any other harmful chemicals. You get what you pay for is very true when it comes to blenders.

Is BPA-free plastic recyclable?

The world produces nearly 300 million tons of plastic every year and most of it is produced for single-use! A good portion of it will end up in the ocean. It’s bad for our planet, there’s no denying it.

While you probably will use your Vitamix pitcher for many years (or even decades) to come, I still wanted to dive deeper into its recyclability.

So, is BPA-free plastic recyclable?

The BPA-free plastic Vitamix uses is safe to use and durable, but it’s difficult to recycle.

Tritan isn’t as commonly used as cheaper plastic materials, and therefore, won’t get recycled as often. But sometimes you can find a local recycling partner that can recycle Tritan plastic.

Eastman also just came out with a new Tritan plastic called Tritan Renew. I really hope Vitamix will start using it for their pitchers.

Tritan Renew is as durable as the original Tritan plastic, but it’s made from recycled materials.

Is there a glass pitcher for Vitamix?

Maybe you’re still not sure you want a plastic pitcher that comes in contact with food, even if it’s BPA-free.

So, does Vitamix offer glass pitchers for their blender? Easy question, easy answer.

No, there aren’t any glass containers for Vitamix blenders. And there are good reasons for it, I’ve written a whole article about it, check it out here: do Vitamix blenders have glass containers?

Using glass jars would be a huge safety risk. Vitamix blenders are commercial blenders and the high speed could shatter the glass while blending.

In the good old days, all blender pitchers were made out of glass. But these blenders weren’t as powerful as modern blenders.

There are still some glass blenders on the market, but those usually come with weaker motors. If you prefer a good old glass blender, check out the best blenders with a glass jar.

Are all Vitamix containers plastic?

Every Vitamix blender you can get for home use comes with a plastic pitcher. While Vitamix doesn’t offer glass containers, they just came out with something that is superior to both glass and plastic!

The Vitamix stainless steel container

Vitamix just introduced their latest-generation blending jar. What a beauty it is!

It’s not plastic, it isn’t glass either. It’s better than both! The new Vitamix container is made out of durable steel, stainless steel to be exact. You can check it out here.

While stainless steel containers have been popular in restaurant kitchens for a while, you won’t find many stainless steel containers for home use. Waring and Vitamix are the only ones offering steel containers right now, as far as I know.

I think in the future, you will see more and more steel blenders popping up, the advantages are obvious.

Stainless steel is sturdy and even more durable than Tritan plastic or glass. I never managed to break a kitchen tool made out of stainless steel, did you?

Also, stainless steel won’t ever leach nasty chemicals into your blend. You’ll never have to worry about BPA and BPS, or if BPA-free plastic is safe or not. That’s a huge plus.

Stainless steel is also odor and stain-resistant just like glass. And you can easily blend hot liquids with a stainless steel container, just make sure to use oven mitts for hot blends.

The only downside to this container is its price. It is expensive! You could easily buy a blender from another brand for the price this container is selling for. Is it worth it? I let you be the judge.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether Vitamix blenders are BPA-free?

Vitamix blenders are BPA-free and only come with the highest-quality materials. If you’re still concerned about plastic and chemicals, you could get a stainless steel container or a weaker blender that comes with a glass jar.

Innocent smoothies taste delicious and are available everywhere. It’s an easy way to incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet. But are innocent smoothies organic? Does Innocent offer any organic smoothies?

No, innocent smoothies are not organic, and they don’t plan to make organic smoothies at the moment. However, innocent tries to minimize pesticides by avoiding fruits from the Dirty Dozen list and by adding some organic fruits to their smoothies.

But there’s more to that question.

In a minute, I’m going to explain what the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen lists are and why they’re so important.

I’m also going to show you why innocent smoothies might still be a good choice, even though they’re not certified organic.

Let’s dive deeper into the world of innocent smoothies!

Why innocent smoothies aren’t organic

Innocent smoothies require a huge volume of fruits and veggies from all over the world. The ingredients for their smoothies come from thousands of different farms.

Innocent has partnerships with tiny family farms and large plantations. They even get some of their fruits from the Amazon rainforest!

It would be quite difficult ( and expensive) to source all of their fruits only from organic farms.

Why I prefer organic smoothies, I like innocent’s approach to ensuring their drinks are sustainable, safe, and healthy.

Innocent tries to reduce pesticides in their smoothies

Pesticides are poisons designed to kill animals and plants. What kills living organisms can’t be good for our health either!

Although innocent smoothies aren’t certified organic, they have high standards when it comes to pesticides and other agrochemical usages.

To make sure their drinks are safe, they always conduct independent laboratory tests on the ingredients they use.

Innocent also tries to not use conventionally grown fruits that are on the Dirty Dozen list by the Pesticide Action Network.

The Dirty Dozen list can be really helpful if you’re not able (it’s expensive after all) to eat completely organic.

The list is updated every year and contains the 12 “dirtiest” fruits and veggies that have the highest residues of pesticides. You can check it out here.

If you just decide to avoid conventionally grown produce that’s listed on the Dirty Dozen and buy organic instead, you’ll be moving in the right direction!

The Dirty Dozen list that I’ve just shown you is the one from the Pesticide Action Network, a UK organization that focuses on sustainable agriculture.

There’s another Dirty Dozen list that’s released every year and is based on test results by the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Since we live in a globalized world, it might be good to check this list out as well. They also offer a Clean Fifteen list, which includes fruits and veggies that have the least pesticide residues.

Innocent tries to avoid conventionally grown produce that is listed on the Dirty Dozen list and you should too!

Innocent smoothies aren’t organic, but they focus on sustainability

Organic food is not only better for our health, but it’s also better for our planet as well! Organic farming results in less soil and water pollution and less greenhouse gas emissions.

While innocent drinks aren’t certified organic, they still focus on sustainability, set high standards for their farms, and give 10% of their profits to charity.

They also teamed up with the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform and are committed to meet their Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA) standards.

It’s basically a non-profit network of over 130 members worldwide who cooperate to make agriculture more sustainable.

If you’re mass-producing smoothies like innocent does, it’s hard to find a single certification scheme that covers all countries, farm sizes, and fruits.

Innocent chose this non-profit organization and their FSA standards because it’s intended for farms of all sizes in every country and is a standardized approach for sustainable farming.

They would like to have chosen the Fairtrade certificate for addressing social issues, but it’s not widely used in some of the countries that they usually buy their fruits from and would limit their options significantly.

Innocent prefers the Rainforest Alliance over organic and Fairtrade

The Rainforest Alliance might not be quite as well-known as Fairtrade, but its logo has been more and more popping up on bananas, coffee, tea, and cocoa all over the world in recent years. It’s a seal with a little frog in it.

The Rainforest Alliance certificate focuses on wildlife protection, environmental protection, as well as good working conditions for farmers.

Innocent uses a lot of bananas in their smoothies and they source some of those bananas from Rainforest Alliance certified farms.

As the Rainforest Alliance develops standards for other fruits (right now they only certificate bananas), innocent would probably love to add those to their smoothies as well.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether innocent smoothies are organic?

While innocent smoothies aren’t organic, they still try to reduce pesticide residues in their smoothies by sourcing some organic fruits and avoiding conventionally grown produce that’s on the Dirty Dozen list.

Innocent also aims to have high sustainability standards and they teamed up with the 130 members of the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative to meet their sustainability goals.

Some of their fruits are also from Rainforest Alliance certified farms, which focus on human rights and environmental protection.

While innocent isn’t “perfect” when it comes to sustainability, they have clear values and strategies they commit to.

Innocent has been pioneering the use of recycled plastic in their bottles since 2003, long before other large corporations hopped on the sustainability train.

Sometimes we don’t have the time to make our own fresh juices and smoothies. When I’m on the go and I crave delicious fruits and veggies, I just buy a bottled smoothie or juice.

Naked Juice is available everywhere, but is Naked Juice organic? I prefer using organic produce in my juices and smoothies after all.

I’ve done the research and here’s what I’ve found out:

No, Naked Juice is not organic. All Naked Juice, Naked Protein, and Naked Smoothie products aren’t organic. Only Naked Coconut Water is certified organic.

That was only the short answer to the question.

In this article, I’m going to show you why non-organic juices are still healthier than not having any juices at all.

Also, you’re going to learn why fresh, cold-pressed juices are always better than most store-bought juices.

I’m also going through my favorite organic juice brand and where you can get it.

Let’s get started!

Naked Juice isn’t organic but does it matter?

Organic foods are increasingly popular, it’s one of the fastest-growing trends during the last few years.

Walk through any store today, and you’re going to see more and more shelf space devoted to organic foods.

And there are good reasons for it!

Organic farming is better for our planet and it should be better for our health as well.

The USDA regulates the industry, so in theory, organic fruits and veggies shouldn’t contain a lot of nasty pesticides and herbicides. Certified organic foods are also naturally non-GMO.

Organic vs. conventional juices and smoothies

If you’re shopping for organic foods, expect to pay roughly 50% more than for conventional foods, is it worth it? It entirely depends on your situation!

I usually use organic produce when I’m making smoothies and juices.

Sometimes when I talk about juicing, people tell me they can’t afford it, because organic produce is so expensive.

My response is always the same: it’s way better to have smoothies or juices made with conventionally grown produce than not having any fruits and veggies at all!

Both conventionally grown and organic produce provide fiber, vitamins, and fiber, and both are essentially fat-free and low in calories.

Studies have actually only shown small to moderate increases in nutrients in organic produce.

The reason I mostly choose organic is pesticides.

Organic produce has significantly lower levels (although still may have residues) of pesticides that can have negative effects on our health.

How to reduce pesticides in fruits and veggies

If you’re making smoothies or fresh juices at home, you could easily reduce the number of pesticides in conventionally grown produce.

Scientists at the University of Massachusetts found out that soaking your fruits and veggies in a solution of water and baking soda can reduce pesticides from the surface effectively.

Just try it yourself next time you’re making smoothies at home. It’s fast and easy:

Just swirl your produce in a solution of 2 teaspoons baking soda for every 4 cups of water. The fruits and veggies need to be submerged completely.

After 30 seconds scrub the produce with a soft vegetable brush

And then rinse under running cold water

Also, check out the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen lists. They contain the conventionally grown fruits and veggies with the most and least pesticide residues for each year.

So, Naked Juice isn’t organic but is it still healthy?

Naked Juice is called naked because it doesn’t contain added sugars, artificial flavors, and preservatives.

Despite having no added sugars, fruits are still naturally high in sugar, and Naked Juice is mostly made out of fruits.

So, let’s check the label of different Naked Juices and Naked Smoothies and see how much sugar is in there:

Kale blazer – sugar: 34g

Bright beets – sugar: 41g

Rainbow machine – sugar: 47g

Red machine – sugar: 48g

Tropical guava – sugar: 50g

Green machine – sugar: 53g

Blue machine – sugar: 55g

Vitamin D machine – sugar: 55g

Power C machine – sugar: 55g

There’s more sugar in a 15.2 oz bottle of Naked Juice than in a 12 oz can of Coca-Cola, which has 39g of sugar.

But before you replace your Naked Juice with soda, hear me out first.

Soda contains refined sugar, the sugar in Naked Juice is fruit sugar, that’s a huge difference!

Refined sugar is highly addictive and doesn’t contain any nutritional value. Fruits contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber, all of which are good for you.

Also, your body treats fruits differently than sugar in candies and soda.

It metabolizes fruit sugar much slower than refined sugar, because of the fiber that’s in fruits. That’s why your blood sugar levels go on a roller coaster if you eat too many candies.

Like any sugar, fruit sugar should be consumed in moderation. But if you’re choosing between soda or smoothies, juices (including Naked Juices) are the healthier option. So, you’re moving in the right direction!

Why fresh juices are better than Naked Juice

Why make your own juices, when you can get the same thing in the store without all the work and clean up?

Easy question, easy answer.

It’s WAY healthier (and cheaper) to make your own smoothies and juices at home.

While store-bought smoothies are convenient, they shouldn’t be a substitute for fresh juice.

Fresh juice contains way more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, as well as flavonoids, and enzymes than any store-bought juice you can get!

And it’s more delicious too!

When you juice fruits and veggies you can control exactly what’s going in there. If you want less sugary juices, simply add more veggies than fruits.

Keep in mind that all store-bought juices, including Naked Juice, are pasteurized to extend their shelf life. The juice gets heated at high temperatures for almost an hour!

This way the juice is sterile but also lost most of the nutrients as well. But that’s not the end of the story…

Now, the pasteurized juice often gets heated again to remove the water and reduce it to a concentrate. This way it’s cheaper to ship the juice around the world.. again nutrients get lost.

Because juice concentrate contains fewer nutrients (and flavor) than fresh juice, manufacturers often add synthetic vitamins and flavors.

Is Naked Juice made from concentrate?

Yes, Naked Juice is made from concentrate, just like almost any other juice you can find at your grocery store.

And just like other brands, Naked Juice uses flavors (at least they’re using natural flavors) and added vitamins to enhance the taste and nutrient profile of their juices.

Not all store-bought juice is created equal though. There are some noteworthy exceptions.

The most nutritious juices you could buy are either juices labeled “not made from concentrate” or even better, cold-pressed juices.

Cold-pressed juice is made with a press that uses pressure to extract the juice. This way the juice gets squeezed out slowly and isn’t heated during the process and it retains most of the nutrients.

Most cold-pressed juices have a limited shelf life of just a few days. Fresh juice is best to be consumed when it’s fresh!

You could easily make nutritious, cold-pressed juices at home, check out the best cold-press juicers to get started.

My favorite organic juice brand

Whenever I don’t have the time to make fresh juices, I usually buy cold-pressed juices that don’t contain added preservatives or sugar.

AllWello cold-pressed juices are certified organic and never made from concentrates. They’re not cheap, but they aren’t as expensive as some other cold-pressed juices, you can check them out here.

Without a single preservative, AllWello juices have an impressive shelf life of 12 months.

The juices come in glass bottles, which I love! And they taste great, just like cold-pressed juice is supposed to taste.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about whether Naked Juice is organic?

While Naked Juice isn’t organic, it’s still healthier than most sugar-laden drinks you can find at your grocery store.

If you’re serious about your health, it’s best to drink fresh, cold-pressed juice made mostly out of vegetables. If you love your body and give it the nutrients it needs, it’ll love you back.

Bolthouse Farms smoothies taste great! They’re an easy way to incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet. But are Bolthouse Farms smoothies vegan? Can vegans have Bolthouse Farms smoothies?

I’ve carefully studied the ingredients of every smoothie and reached out to Bolthouse Farms’ customer service. Here’s what I’ve found out:

Yes, some Bolthouse Farms smoothies are vegan. The following smoothies are suitable for a vegan diet: Amazing Mango, Berry Boost, C-Boost, Green Goodness, and Strawberry Banana. Out of 10 different flavors, 5 are entirely plant-based.

It’ was impossible (for me) to figure out which Bolthouse smoothies are vegan just by looking at the label. There are so many ingredients that sound vegan but in reality, aren’t vegan.

Bolthouse Farms’ customer service was really helpful (and answered super quickly)!

So, if you ever have issues finding out if a Bolthouse Farms product is vegan or not, just send them a message and they’ll get back to you in a hurry.

I’ve learned a lot during the research for this article and there’s so much more to know about store-bought smoothies.

In a minute, you’re going to learn which smoothie ingredients aren’t vegan (even if they sound vegan) and what to look out for if you’re buying smoothies as a vegan.

Also, I’m going to share with you which other Bolthouse Farms products are plant-based and how you can make sure your smoothies are 100% vegan.

Are all Bolthouse Farms smoothies vegan?

No, unfortunately not all Bolthouse Farms smoothies are vegan. You’ve got to study the ingredients carefully if you want to find out which flavors are suitable for a vegan diet. If you’re not a pro at this, just ask their customer service or search the internet.

Bolthouse Farms fruit smoothies ingredients

Bolthouse Farms offers a wide variety of delicious fruit smoothies. Let’s go through all the different flavors and see if we can find any ingredients that aren’t vegan.

Is Bolthouse Farms Strawberry Banana vegan?

Bolthouse Farms Strawberry Banana doesn’t contain any ingredients that might normally be of concern for vegans, except natural flavors. I’ll share my thoughts on natural flavors later, these can be tricky sometimes. However, Bolthouse Farms’ customer service assured me that the natural flavors in this smoothie are plant-based and the Strawberry Banana smoothie is 100% vegan. The ingredients are mostly fruit juice concentrates and fruit purees that give this smoothie a nice thick texture.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients:

Strawberry Puree, Banana Puree, Pear Juice From Concentrate (Water, Pear Juice Concentrate), Apple Juice From Concentrate (Water, Apple Juice Concentrate), Apple Puree From Concentrate (Water, Apple Puree Concentrate), Pectin, Natural Flavors, Vegetable Juice For Color, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid).

Is Bolthouse Farms Amazing Mango vegan?

Yes, the Amazing Mango smoothie is vegan. It’s mostly made from fruit purees and fruit juices. It also contains natural flavors which could be derived from animals.
A few words on natural flavors in store-bought smoothies

While some bottled smoothies are better than others, most store-bought smoothies are made out of juice concentrates. It’s a heavily processed form of juice compared to fresh fruit juice.

In order to get juice concentrate, you have to heat fresh juice to high temperatures to remove the water. This way, not only nutrients get lost (that’s why they add vitamins to their smoothies), but the juice also loses some of the flavors.

That’s the reason why Bolthouse Farms adds flavors to their smoothies to enhance the taste.

Sometimes manufacturers can hide animal-derived ingredients by labeling them as “natural flavors”. These flavors could be extracted from either plant or animal sources.

Unfortunately, manufacturers don’t have to specify if their natural flavors have been derived from animals or plants. Natural flavors could be:

Fruit or vegetable juices

Plant materials

Dairy products

Eggs

Spices

or even seafood, meat, or poultry

I asked Bolthouse Farms which natural flavors they use, and here’s their answer:

“The term “flavoring” refers to the oils or extracts that are obtained from spices and herbs. Natural flavoring may also include onion or garlic derivatives, as well as flavor derived from fruits, vegetables and their juices, or edible parts of plants. Other sources may include meat, seafood, poultry or dairy products, whose significant function in the food is flavoring rather than nutrition.”

As you can see, I couldn’t really find out which natural flavors they use. They probably use a wide variety of flavors and customer support can’t give a specific answer to that question.

I’m glad, however, that Bolthouse Farms doesn’t use artificial flavors. Those flavors always contain man-made chemicals and should be avoided for health reasons.

While I prefer natural flavors, you can’t be completely sure that they’re vegan unless the manufacturer provides additional information… which in most cases, they won’t.

How to make sure your smoothie is 100% vegan

The best way to make sure your smoothies are vegan is to make them yourself!

Fresh smoothies are not only more delicious than store-bought smoothies, but they’re also healthier as well. You control exactly what’s going in there!

Homemade smoothies also aren’t pasteurized, they contain all the goodness of the fruits and veggies you put in.

If you’ve never made smoothies before, don’t worry. Making smoothies yourself isn’t rocket science.

All you need is a good blender comparable to a Vitamix and a few fruits and veggies.

If you’re ready to start making your own smoothies, check out these almond milk smoothie recipes or frozen fruit smoothie recipes.

Some of my smoothie recipes have Greek yogurt to make them creamy. You could easily substitute Greek yogurt with vegan yogurt. Or check out these healthy vegan smoothies that only contain vegan ingredients.

Immersion blenders are so versatile, they’re an essential tool in any kitchen. But are immersion blenders cordless? Are there any cordless hand blenders?

I’ve done the research and here’s what I found out.

Most immersion blenders are corded, but there a few cordless hand blenders that come with built-in batteries. Battery-operated immersion blenders aren’t as powerful as corded ones.

There’s more to learn about corded and cordless immersion blenders, though.

Shortly, I’m going to explain why most hand blenders on the market are corded. I’m also going to show you the best cordless immersion blender.

Let’s dive deeper into the world of immersion blenders!

Why most immersion blenders are corded

Also known as stick blenders or hand blenders, immersion blenders can be either corded or cordless.

It’s understandable why some people prefer cordless blenders, but both types of blenders have their pros and cons.

Keep in mind, however, that most hand blenders are corded and there’s a reason for it.

1. Portability and convenience – cordless wins

Cordless devices win here, they are so much more convenient!

You won’t need to plug them into a wall outlet to function. They offer optimal portability, as you can blend anywhere in your kitchen.

The downside to cordless blenders is that you’ll have to charge the battery often. You’ll get roughly 20 minutes of blending time after 2 hours of charging.

2. Speed and power – corded wins

Most people choose corded immersion blenders because they’re more powerful than battery-operated ones.

With a corded immersion blender, you can blend almost anything. Some can even crush ice or frozen fruits, and make nut butters.

Battery-operated blenders, on the other hand, work best on softer substances.

3. Safety – cordless wins

Cordless hand blenders can be considered safer because there’s simply no cord that can get caught on something.

4. Price – corded wins

While immersion blenders vary widely in price, corded blenders are usually more affordable than their battery-operated counterparts.

Should I get a corded or cordless stick blender?

It really depends on your preferences. I only use corded blenders, because I have outlets everywhere in my kitchen. The cord doesn’t bother me at all.

But maybe you need more flexibility and a cordless blender is the best choice for you? Only you will know the answer.

Keep in mind, however, that if you’re deciding on a cordless device to get one with a strong battery and motor.

Most cordless blenders simply lack the power to perform even the easiest blending tasks.

Luckily, there are some models from trusted brands that blend almost as well as corded devices, but give you all the flexibility you need.

What are the best immersion blenders for home use?

If you want a cordless immersion blender, I’d go for a KitchenAid.

This KitchenAid cordless hand blender comes with a strong lithium-ion battery and a powerful motor, you can check it out here.

With a full charge, you could blend up to 25 bowls of soup. It charges from empty to full in 2 hours.

With a quick charge of just 20 minutes, you could make one delicious 16-oz fruit smoothie or puree a 44-oz hot soup.

The KitchenAid comes with variable speeds and has enough power for most blending jobs.

The hand blender I use

I have the Mueller Austria hand blender and I love it, you can check it out here.

It’s an affordable device that comes with several accessories and attachments like a measuring cup and a chopper bowl. The attachments are really useful and connect easily.

The chopper is like a mini food processor, so you can easily chop foods or make salsas.

The Mueller Austria lays great in my hands and offers plenty of power. You can choose between 12 different speeds or use the turbo boost for maximum speed.

This hand blender is just perfect for soups and sauces and its food processor capabilities are pretty impressive as well.

I don’t use it for making smoothies, so I can’t really comment on that. But I guess it could blend small amounts of frozen fruits or ice if you add enough liquids.

The Mueller Austria chops and blends very quickly. It’s also well made and super easy to clean.

Do you really need an immersion blender?

I have both stand blenders and immersion blenders and I didn’t want to miss any of them!

Since I have my cooking blender (more about it here: are cooking blenders worth it?), I don’t use my hand blender quite as often, but it’s still a great tool for multiple purposes.

What are hand blenders used for?

Besides having a small size, and being easy to keep clean, immersion blenders will outperform counter blenders on some blending jobs.

An immersion blender is great for hot foods like soups, sauces, and purées.

You could also easily make delicious salsas, pestos, hummus, mayonnaise, pancake batter, whipped cream, milkshakes, or even smoothies with a hand blender.

Now, if a hand blender is so versatile, why would you still need a countertop blender?

Can an immersion blender replace a blender?

It’s true that an immersion blender is versatile and also easier to clean than its counterpart – a full-sized blender.

Hand blenders are also more affordable than regular blenders… except if you’re choosing a battery-operated hand blender, those can get pretty expensive too!

So, could you get away with just using an immersion blender? Can an immersion blender replace a regular blender?

No, unfortunately, an immersion blender won’t replace a blender. A hand blender simply can’t do everything a blender can, but it does a few things better.

So, for me, it’s not a choice between one or the other, I want to have both in my kitchen.

Stand blender vs. immersion blender

While both have their merits, there are instances where one is better than the other.

Full-sized blenders are more powerful than hand blenders. They’re usually the better choice when you’re blending tough ingredients like frozen fruits or ice.

Also, you can blend large batches in a relatively short time with a stand blender. You could blend larger amounts with a hand blender too, but it’ll a while and requires a lot of effort.

I usually use my hand blender for blending smaller amounts of food. Also, before I bought my cooking blender, I used it often for pureeing hot soups and sauces.

If you’re a fan of homemade soups, keep in mind that most counter blenders (especially the more affordable ones) aren’t designed to blend hot liquids. So, a hand blender is usually the better choice for soups.

Also, it’s super convenient to puree soups or sauces right in the pot with a hand blender, instead of having to transfer it to a blender.

Making smoothies with an immersion blender

While it’s true that you could make smoothies with a hand blender, I don’t recommend it.

Smoothies usually contain plenty of frozen fruits, ice, and other tough ingredients, like leafy greens.

An immersion blender won’t be able to blend tougher ingredients as thoroughly as a powerful counter blender can.

You’ll end up with a lot of unprocessed chunks in your smoothies.

If you’re only going to make fruit smoothies without frozen fruits, a hand blender will do just fine, but it’ll still require more effort and time than if you’re just using a regular blender.

So, if you’re a smoothie addict (like me), I highly recommend getting a stand blender. There are many good blenders that are similar to a Vitamix that won’t break the bank.

If you’re only want to puree soups or sauces, or whip up some cream, get an immersion blender. They don’t take up any counter space, are easy to clean, and cost less than stand blenders.

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about cordless hand blenders?

Immersion blenders are ideal for smaller blending tasks like pureeing food or making mayonnaise or batter. They’re quieter, more affordable, and easier to clean than full-sized blenders.

While they’re versatile kitchen helpers, they can’t fully replace your regular blender. If you’re going to blend a lot of tougher ingredients or if you’re going to make large batches for your whole family, it’s better to choose a stand blender.

When you’re deciding on an immersion blender, you can choose between battery-operated and corded blenders. They both have their merits, but most people prefer corded hand blenders.

Cordless devices give you more flexibility, but they’re usually more expensive and have less power than their corded counterparts.

I love smoothie bowls! I used to only make smoothie bowls in my Vitamix, but since I also own Ninja blenders, I’ve wondered, can ninja blenders make smoothie bowls? Are Ninja blenders good for smoothie bowls?

I decided to test it out, and here’s what I learned:

Most Ninja blenders can make smoothie bowls. There are even some Ninja blenders that are specially designed for creating perfectly thick smoothie bowls without the need to shake or stir.

But that was just the short answer.

In this article, I’ll reveal the latest Ninja blenders that are designed to make perfect spoon-thick smoothie bowls with the push of one button.

Also, I’m going to show you how you can easily make smoothie bowls in your Ninja blender.

Let’s dive deep into the world of smoothie bowls!

Can I use any Ninja blender for smoothie bowls?

Yes, you can use almost any Ninja blender for smoothie bowls. Although, some models are better suited than others.

The best Ninja blenders for smoothie bowls are the high-powered ones with at least 1,000-watt motors.

Smoothie bowls usually contain plenty of frozen fruits and very little liquids, if any at all, to reach that thick consistency.

Blending frozen ingredients without any added liquids is a challenging task for almost any blender.

Luckily, Ninja blenders come with strong motors and have well-thought-out blade designs. They’re suited for most blending jobs, including smoothie bowls.

If you’ve got an older model, the results may not be as perfect as they would be in a newer model, but it should work out just fine.

Also, if you’re using an older model, you’ll probably have to stop blending to scrape the sides, so that all ingredients get blended thoroughly.

With the new Ninja blenders that are designed for smoothie bowls, you’ll never have to stop while blending. You’ll just press one button and you can walk away.

While it’s true that some models are more suited for smoothie bowls than others, it’s probably not worth it to upgrade your old Ninja blender just to get slightly better results.

If you haven’t got a Ninja blender yet, and you’re not sure which model you should choose for, hold on. I’m going to show you the best models.

The best Ninja blenders for smoothie bowls

One of the key characteristics of a smoothie bowl is its thick texture.

Getting the right consistency is super important. Unblended chunks can ruin your smoothie bowl experience in an instant.

Most standard blenders simply lack the power to blend frozen fruits thoroughly without any added liquids, but you won’t have that issue with a Ninja blender.

Even though they’re affordable, they feature powerful motors!

What I love about Ninja is that they always come out with new innovations. It’s hard to keep up with the progress because it seems like there’s always a newer and better model.

Ninja just came out with two amazing blenders that are designed for heavy loads without stalling or the need to shake or stir. They’re specially designed with smoothie bowls in mind.

The Ninja Foodi with Smoothie Bowl Maker

Which is better for smoothie bowls, a Ninja blender, or a Vitamix?

Ninja blenders are great for smoothie bowls, but how does it compare to Vitamix blenders? Can Ninja blenders really make smoothie bowls like a professional, high-performance blender can?

And is this even a fair comparison to make? A Vitamix can easily cost you $500 or more, while a Ninja will cost you only a fraction of that.

I’ve made smoothie bowls in my Nutri Ninja (the popular Ninja personal blender without speed control and presets), my Vitamix 5200, as well as my Ninja Professional countertop blender.

The creamiest, most consistent results came from the Vitamix, but the difference isn’t huge. If you’re only making smoothies and smoothie bowls with your blender, save your money and get a Ninja blender.

Even the smaller Nutri Ninja did create decent results, although the Ninja Professional is better suited for the job because you can control the speed and it comes with a pulse function. Also, the Ninja Professional has a more powerful motor.

I had the chance to test the latest Ninja blenders that were designed for smoothie bowls, and they’re so much more convenient to use just because of the built-in tamper. Also, the smoothie bowls are slightly smoother than the ones with my “old” Ninja blenders.

I usually only have 1-2 smoothie bowls a month, and I already own several blenders, so for me, it’s not worth getting another one. However, if I would have more space in my kitchen (and more money in my bank account), I would love to own one!

How to make smoothie bowls in a Ninja blender

Making smoothie bowls in your Ninja blender isn’t rocket science.

In just five simple steps, you can make delicious smoothie bowls at home that taste just like the ones you’ll get in juice bars.

1. Get a recipe on the internet or create your own recipe

There are thousands of delicious smoothie bowl recipes on the internet. My favorites are these ones:

Berry smoothie bowl from minimalist baker – this recipe only contains four ingredients (if you leave the toppings out) and tastes so delicious. It’s the perfect breakfast when you don’t have much time in the morning.

Strawberry banana smoothie bowl from bakerita – who doesn’t love the combination of strawberries and banana? I sure do! In just 5 minutes you’ll have a perfectly healthy and delicious smoothie bowl made out of only a few ingredients.

Peanut butter banana smoothie bowl from Kaylie Grace – this smoothie bowl is creamy and tastes like a dessert. You’ll need only 5 ingredients and it can be a perfect breakfast or delicious afternoon snack.

If you want to create your own recipes, it’s pretty easy as well. Just make sure to use plenty of frozen fruits, like in these frozen fruits smoothie recipes, and add very little liquid. A few tablespoons of liquid will often do it. Don’t forget your toppings and start blending!

Now that you’ve chosen a delicious recipe, it’s time to get serious. Here’s how to make delicious smoothie bowls without endless scraping:

2. Add the frozen fruits to your Ninja blender and blend on low

Add the frozen fruits first and start on the lowest setting. If your Ninja doesn’t have speed control, simply pulse a few times. The goal is to chop the frozen fruits into smaller bits. It’ll make blending later easier for your Ninja. Just a few seconds on the lowest setting or pulsing will do the job.

3. Add the liquid and blend again

Add whatever liquids you have chosen for your smoothie bowl and blend on low until it turns into a smoother texture. Depending on which Ninja blender you’re using, you might need to turn your blender off and scrape down the sides a few times. After 20-30 seconds turn the speed to medium until it becomes even smoother.

4. Add all the other ingredients

If your smoothie bowl contains protein powder, nut butter, or anything else, now it’s the time to add those. Start on the medium setting and blend for a few seconds then slowly turn to the highest setting until your smoothie bowl is perfectly smooth and creamy. If ingredients get stuck on the sides of the jar, stop your Ninja and scrape the sides again.

5. Add the toppings and enjoy your delicious smoothie bowl!

Once the smoothie bowl is perfectly smooth and creamy, add the mixture into a bowl, and place any toppings that you like on top. Enjoy your smoothie bowl!

Did I cover everything you wanted to know about Ninja blenders and smoothie bowls?

Ninja blenders are powerful blenders, and almost any Ninja (unless you’ve got a really old one) should make perfect smoothie bowls.

While commercial blenders like Vitamix can create even smoother results, it’s really not worth it to upgrade your Ninja blender. For the price of one Vitamix, you could get several Ninja blenders.
